[CGUYS] Time stamp resets
I regularly back-up my data files to a WD MyBook using the Powerdesk Synchronize function. But I notice that on thet external drive the time stamp exactly comes out 1 hour later than the original file had, so the files never match up as identical. I've not had that issue with Powerdesk before, so I suspect WD. Anyone have notions about this? Re: [CGUYS] Upgrade the video card?
A delayed update. I got rid of Spysweeper which I long suspected of bogging down the computer, and voila things are better. But the question still stands, would there be any incemental improvement with a heftier video card? Re: [CGUYS] Upgrade the video card?
Any P4 level machine should be able to handle photos easily, even 5-7 megapixel ones (but you weren't real specific). I'm going to guess this is a problem with whatever app you're using to process the pix. Try updating it or un/reinstalling it. Be more specific about what part of the process is slow, e.g. when you drag a pic onto Windows Media Player is it slow to display it? What's slow is painting the thumbnails of a few hundred photos (1.5-3 Mb apiece) located in a folder on the hard drive. The upload is equally slow in Windows explorer or my apps (Corel Ulead or Photoshop Elements Organizer). Most especially, when I weant to rotate a picture, it takes 30-60 seconds/picture, so its hard to manage a few dozen at a time. Maybe I expect too much? ___ Quentin Fisher Bethesda, MD * == QUICK LIST-COMMAND REFERENCE - Put the following commands in == * == the body of an email send 'em to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] == * Join the list: SUBSCRIBE COMPUTERGUYS-L Your Name * Too much mail? [CGUYS] Upgrade the video card?
As digital files get larger and more numerous, I find even simple sorting and labeling tasks get more sluggish. I have a Dell Dimension Pentium 4 running XP. I have maxxed on RAM, and installed a SATA hard dive. Would upgrading the video card make much of a difference, or have I gotten near the limits of my processor and bus? Other suggestions? Re: [CGUYS] Home network
I have a home network with Linksys. The main computer is cabled to the router, and others via wireless. All running XP and Zone Alarm. The problem I've had is that all the computers see each other in the same workgroup, and all can share EXCEPT when accessing to the main computer from any other. I keep getting access forbidden messages. I've gone over the sharing settings, included it in the Zone Alarm zones, etc, but can't figure what I'm missing. Obviously got iy right in the other machines. Any suggestions that go beyond the usual simple Windows set-up? [CGUYS] Compaq, Vista doesn't connect
If you're near the router, try hard-wire connecting to it. If you still can't connect then its a Vista bug. For my new Dell Vista Llaptop, I found it was a refusal by Vista to communicate with the router. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233 Quentin Fisher Bethesda, MD * == QUICK LIST-COMMAND REFERENCE - Put the following commands in == * == the body of an email send 'em to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] == * Join the list: SUBSCRIBE COMPUTERGUYS-L Your Name * Too much mail? [CGUYS] True type fonts in Vista
The true-type fonts I have been using for years in previous iterations of Windows (95, Win 2000 and XP) don't fit Vista's snarky moodiness. On trying to install them, I get an error message that they are not a correct font type. Any ideas why this might be, and how to convince Vista that everyone of its cousins and siblings got along OK with them? Re: [CGUYS] Turning a digital video upright.
From: Tony B [EMAIL PROTECTED] WMM seems to be working for me. I don't have any original 3:4 foota but I took a small 4:3 clip, rotated it 90deg (right-click, add Vid Effect), rendered it, then rotated it 270deg and rendered. The vide looks fine. I might be mischaracterizing the aspect ratio, but the problem is simply turning a sideways video upright without losing the correct aspect ratio. Why do you do the second 270-deg rotation? Doesn't that make it sideways again? Quentin A.
