[CGUYS] Looking for a reasonably priced Hi Speed internet service in Northern Virginia area

2010-04-05 Thread computerguys
 Hello all:

I live in Fairfax County and I need something a lot better than my current
internet service. I am not interested in a bundle I don't watch television
and I have adequate phone service. Unfortunately the available isps charge
hefty prices for stand alone internet service. Something in the range of $30 a
month or under. If anyone has some suggestions I would greatly apprieciate it.
 Cheers, Bill.

[CGUYS] Saving Web Pages with Firefox-Followup

2009-10-12 Thread computerguys

 Hello all:

Thank you everyone who replied to my post a while back. Briefly, I am trying
to save web pages in my computer, rather than print them out and have lots of
paper laying around. Per the advice here, I updated my Firefox to the latest
version and was able to save the complete pages using the format Web page
complete. After a period of time, all the text disappeared and all that
remained were the images. Any advice at this point? I am using Windows Vista
but had the same problem before with XP. Thanks for any replys, Bill.

Thank you. Yes I remember being referred to Scrapbook and PDF files. I was
not able to locate the scrapbook add-on for some reason and Adobe looks like an
expensive option. After some success at obtaining what I needed I thought I
was in the clear, but to my dismay, all the text vanished, leaving only images.

I used the scrapbook add-on to FireFox, and it worked very well. It
saves the pages as html files wherever you want to put them.

[CGUYS] Saving Web pages in Firefox

2009-05-05 Thread computerguys
Hello all. I would like to save web pages in firefox. When I try to do so, it
only saves the images, none of the text. Is there a way to save all this
information? I use Firefox 2.0, and believe I save them as a web page. Thanks
for any reply, Bill.

Re: [CGUYS] Saving Web pages in Firefox my os

2009-05-05 Thread computerguys
I use XP.
The idea is to save it to the hard drive. Would you suggest save as a pdf and
save to the HD? Thanks, Bill.

 What OS do you run?

Under OS X you can just print to PDF and get a pretty good copy. If
you want to descend links then Acrobat will capture a site for you.

[CGUYS] MP3 Player for the Visually Handicapped?

2008-12-15 Thread computerguys
Hello all. I would like to buy a MP3 Player for an elderly person with Macular
Degeneration so she can enjoy Old Radio shows. It does not have to be
portable, but portable is ok. Need simple controls that don't need a screen.
The Ipod appears not to be the solution. Thanks for any replys. -Bill.

Re: [CGUYS] burning videos on to dvds

2007-08-10 Thread computerguys
That's good advice Tony. Thank you.
No I would never throw away originals, tape or negatives. Horrors!!!
I have had some fun with a transparancy scanner and old brownie negatives. The
scanner came with Photoshop LE. I came up with some amazing images. -Bill.

 The MC3 doesn't seem to have a tuner. I wouldn't get one that couldn't
be used for recording programs when I was finished with it. And I
wouldn't mess with DL double layer DVDs. Too expensive, too much
 trouble. They'll never catch on.

PS Don't throw away the originals. You'll likely need to record again
on whatever the next format becomes.

One option for you is the cover it with black tape and ignore it approach.

Namely, go into Control Panel and open up the Power item. Find the power
option that says what to do when you Close The Lid.

Change the value to Do Nothing.

That way, whether you really close the lid or simply jiggle the screen,
 nothing will happen.
