A delayed update. I got rid of Spysweeper which I long suspected of
bogging down the computer, and voila things are better. But the question
still stands, would there be any incemental improvement with a heftier
video card?

30-60 seconds/picture, so its hard to manage a few dozen at a time.

other. I keep getting access forbidden messages. I've gone over
the sharing settings, included it in the Zone Alarm zones, etc, but can't
figure what I'm missing. Obviously got iy right in the other machines. Any
suggestions that go beyond the usual simple Windows set-up?

If you're near the router, try hard-wire connecting to it. If you still
can't connect then its a Vista bug. For my new Dell Vista Llaptop, I
found it was a refusal by Vista to communicate with the router.

WMM seems to be working for me. I don't have any original 3:4 foota
but I took a small 4:3 clip, rotated it 90deg (right-click, add Vid
Effect), rendered it, then rotated it 270deg and rendered. The vide
looks fine.
I might be mischaracterizing the aspect ratio,
