Re: [CGUYS] Amazon Simple DB in the Cloud Now Free

What is the point of discouraging exploration and innovation? Should
someone shun opportunities because success might end up costing them $5
or $10?

This could be a snake in the grass for unsuspecting souls. The free 'low
volume' encourages development and testing, but if you choose to let anyone
on the net use your database, you could be looking at hefty charges if your
database becomes popular or is attacked by a bot (Amazon would not do that,
would they?). I only hope you can put max limits on the data transfer.

[CGUYS] Amazon Simple DB in the Cloud Now Free

2008-12-09 Thread Tom Piwowar
For a database in the cloud, Amazon on Dec 1st added a threshold for
billable use. The threshold is fairly high so much useful work should be
free.

This is interesting, but anyone thinking of putting a lot of reliance on its
being free should be aware that Amazon is only promising that it will be
free for at least the first six months of the public beta.

That said, the regular non-free pricing structure doesn't look very
expensive for moderate use anyway.
