TAXES:
What Every Entrepreneur and Consultant Needs To Know
Speaker: Jina Etienne, CPA, Etienne & Associates
Is your business paying more in taxes than required by law? Whether your
business grosses millions of dollars each year or you are just getting started
as an independent consultant, you probably hire an outside accountant to handle
tax return submission. The ultimate responsibility for paying appropriate
taxes, however, is yours. Do you have the basic accounting knowledge needed to
supervise the work of your accountant? Do you stay current on tax law changes?
Because tax return deadlines for corporations and individuals are approaching,
the focus of this presentation will be on income tax compliance and preparation
rather than on tax planning and consulting issues. This presentation will alert
you to mistakes and oversights that can cost you money, and to tax law changes
you need to know about. The presentation will be followed by a question and
answer session, so gather your questions and join us.
Speaker: Jina Etienne, CPA, has more than 15 years of public accounting
experience. She began her career with Deloitte & Touche, one of the "Big Eight"
accounting firms, where her focus was tax planning and compliance for
corporations, partnerships, and S corporations ranging from government
contractors and vending companies to hospitality and retail firms. When she
left Deloitte & Touche to start Etienne & Associates, LLC, her focus shifted to
the needs of small- and medium-sized businesses.
With her own practice, Jina Etienne provides a wide range of accounting
services for businesses and individuals, including tax planning and
preparation, and business consulting. Her client base is diverse, including
retail and service-based businesses as well as consultants and contractors. For
individuals, her services generally include tax return preparation and tax
planning, including tax research and representation before the IRS.
Ms. Etienne earned an M.S. in taxation in 1993 and a B.S.B.A. in accounting in
1989 from American University. Jina has also taught accounting as an adjunct
professor at American University and teaches QuickBooks at local accounting
seminars and conferences.

CASHING IN THROUGH A WEB PRESENCE
Speaker: Tom Gutnick, Sunny Banana IT Consulting
Audience: No technical expertise needed--just your good business savvy.
Every small business, consultant, and freelancer needs a presence on the
Internet--that's where potential customers expect to find you. This session
will discuss the reasons why, and walk you through the steps involved in
establishing a domain name and Web site, inexpensively and easily. We'll also
have a brief discussion of search engine rankings. Learn how to bust through
the jargon, and learn enough to do it on your own or to confidently hire
someone.
Speaker: Tom Gutnick, the owner of Sunny Banana IT Consulting, has decades of
experience in many areas of information technology, including information
security, enterprise architecture, Web site design, and software development.
His clients have ranged from Fortune 500 corporations to small businesses and
nonprofit organizations. He has taught everything from junior high science as a
Peace Corps volunteer to high-level computer seminars for corporate audiences.
In addition to personal technology classes for Arlington Adult Education, he
teaches information systems classes at Northern Virginia Community College.
Sunny Banana IT Consulting helps small businesses and individuals who are
struggling with the complexities of technology and are too small to have their
our own IT departments. With in-depth knowledge and experience, Sunny Banana
helps clients harness the right technology for their business, with patient and
jargon-free consultation and training customized to their needs.
