I had this problem when i tried to connect a laptop i was troubleshooting on
my own network. Then I remembered I had mac filtering turned on in the
router. After I turned that off I was fine.

Not sure about Vista, but XP Pro networking has a capability that
disables wifi connections after the computer sees a network via CAT5.
If you look at My Network Places/ View Network Connections in XP you can
see one or the other is disabled & enable the one you want. Perhaps
Vista is simila

My husband picked up a 'hot' deal on a new Compaq notebook [almost
free], for basic web surfing and word processing. It connects to the
Internet OK via ethernet, but the WiFi has problems. It 'sees' the
network, but doesn't connect. Reception is poor, even when sitting next
to the switch. Recep
