Re: [CGUYS] Quality control?
I can buy the same part at the local hardware store, Home Depot or Lowes. Same packaging same number. Yes indeed. He pointed that out "Same packaging same number" but not the same product in the box. That was your plumber trying to justify charging you a higher price. No markup. I was buying all the materials myself. A few times he put what I bought back in the box saying "You don't want to pay me to put that junk in. It won't last." The reason he's been my plumber for so long is that he watches out for his clients. Exactly the same thing that I do for my clients. Items with the same numbers are not necessarily the same. I always read the fine print on the boxes. The item at Home Depot that is made in China may have the same number as the item at Lowe's, or my local hardware store, that's made in Turkey. Products look the same, but may not perform the same. Chinese nails and screws break. Ones made in Turkey fare better. * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *

Again urban legend. I can buy the same part at the local hardware store, Home Depot or Lowes. Same packaging same number. No difference. That was your plumber trying to justify charging you a higher price. Stewart At 05:12 PM 11/5/2009, you wrote: Or quality subversion? It is not the brand it is how its made. Re: [CGUYS] Quality control?
A little while ago I got a pair of wranglers at walmart for work...one of the guys saw them and said walmart? I said how did you know? He said the outside seam along the leg wasn't straight. The jeans lasted as long as any other pair so I cared not, but it is interesting. After 10 years of heavy use still look good. It is just like the Mac vs. PC comparison. Let us not get into what brands of clothes wear better! Designer jeans are a joke compared to Lee and Levi--both found at Walmart. :) Even in dressy clothes, price doesn't always mean anything, and 'labels' mean even less. Most any 10 y/o clothes are better-made than anything new.
