Yes. It is sometimes recommended that you do it this way so that when you need to reload you do not loose everything. "Should" remember it when you do it. Re: [CGUYS] Salvaging Hard Drive
If you got media with your Computer you can boot to the recovery CD and it will then start from the recovery partition. I have never had problems with reformatting a drive on a Dell as it is a hidden partition not normally seeable to a Windows install CD. Dell computers often have a recovery partition on the drive. You start up while holding down some F key and it restores you to original condition. Is your CD intended for upgrading only? M$ won't let you install if it does not see a previous OS on the disk. Is your laptop's BIOS set to boot from a CD? That and restarting should get you to a screen with the options you desire. Re: [CGUYS] Salvaging Hard Drive
New Information: Apparently letting the laptop stay off for awhile has helped. I now am able to get to the partitioning prompts. When I was here before, the installation failed to complete on "C" after it had been formatted. Now I'm not sure what to do. any suggestions? Thanks again, Richard P. [CGUYS] Salvaging Hard Drive
I've somehow messed up the re-formatting of my laptop hard drive when I was attempting to reinstall Windows XP. Now when I try to boot up with the CD, I get a "No Operating System Found" error. Is there a way to start this process over and salvage the hard drive? Thanks in advance Richard P.
