Ghost will do the job just fine.

If you copy the data you can just replace your main drive with your 
backup drive and keep on working. But if your problem is Windows' typical 
DLL hell or Registry corruption your backup will be just as screwed up as 
your hard drive.

If you use images then you can take multiple snapshots (if you have 
enough disk space for it). But then you will have to have a procedure for 
restoring from those images.
