Re: [CGUYS] safari3.1 update

2008-03-25 Thread rlsimon
Sure does ...M$IE7 takes around 2x as long to load a webpage as does
Opera9.50b in my unofficial time test (measured by how long I have to muse I
were in the Cayman Is) ...didn't try Safari3.1 as I started the dld last
night and got bumped during the night, was half done, tried resume in safari
which started it over from the beginning ...drat!! The end of my safari
with safari for now.

If you are on dial-up, a fast browser won't make a difference, eh?

Izit faster than Opera (latest full ver 9.25, I use 9.50beta) ??

Also, is the 39mb dld because it has dozens of languages; therefore is
there a slipstreamed version of USA inglich only or is there an
update to lay over ver 3.0.1 ??

Good advice, I hadn't received your pimpmysafari.com msg so this isn't
really a repeat just a simple pete.

The del.icio.us tools work kinda backwards...I use the extension that lets
you tag bookmarks for del.icio.us without having to bookmark them locally.
Not a biggie type of deal. Like I said I like the way safari renders text,
that alone may be a reason to switch or use it more often if I'm reading a
lot online.

To repeat: Have you been to pimpmysafari.com?

Starting with the first item on your list. Have you tried
 Delicious2Safari or Safarilicious?

PithHelmet does many of the things NoScript does.

 Etc. etc.

Sometimes I use safari for windows for a change of landscape ...I have 3.0.2
...is the 3.1 update needed (I have dialup and 39mb is gonna take days) ??

It is hard to call any update needed. I would call it interesting.
3.1 is twice as fast as the next fastest browser. The big deal is that
with 3.1 Apple leads the pack with the inclusion of some new HTML5
features. One is the ability to download and use fonts for screen display
and the other is CSS-based animations. Of course this does not matter
much because it will take years for IE to catch up and most sites will
not use advanced features until they are blessed by the great monopolist.

Re: [CGUYS] safari3.1 update

2008-03-24 Thread mike
Twice as fast in lab tests run by lab rats. Remember how fast Apple used to
say PPC chips were? I'd wager not one sane user of pc's or macs can really
tell the difference in render times between say IE or firefox or Safari.
The biggest benefit I see trying out Safari is Apple knows how to render
text, that part is beautiful. Faster though, not something I noticed at
all. Nor did the couple of reviews I read/heard. I do notice the three
or four extensions I use heavily I can't use. Also there is Apple's typical
'you'll use it the way we want you to use it cause we know best attitude'.
Not much in the way of changing the look of Safari etc. Although it does
have the cool animation flip thing to show preferences.
