Fixed Term:  Book Conservator – 12 months, full time
Salary Band 5 range GBP 27,385 -  GBP 32,914 per annum

The Conservation Department fulfils a major role in helping the Museum
deliver its wider objectives. It has a worldwide reputation for the
excellence of its practical work, for innovative ideas and for pioneering
the scientific and ethical approach to conservation, also for sharing this
expertise.

The Museum is now preparing for a major collection move from its current
storage facility at Blythe House to a new Collections and Research Centre,
which will enable greatly increased public access to our internationally
significant collections, providing facilities for visitors and researchers.

We are now recruiting a Book Conservator on a one year fixed-term contract
(36 hours per week) working at our Blythe House. This is an exciting
opportunity to be part of a team working on objects as part of the decant
to our new stores.  You will be responsible for treating an extensive range
of volumes with red rot.  The work will include consolidation of the
leather, surface cleaning, some practical conservation and boxing.

Purpose of job

The post is based at Blythe House, one of the V&As stores. You will be
working on the preparation for transport and storage of a variety of
book-related objects with red rot as well as other material.

You will have completed a recognised book conservation training programme
and have some post qualification practical experience.
