West Dean College has an international reputation for excellence in 
conservation and creative arts. The College specialises in the practical 
teaching of conservation (of objects and materials) and the creative and visual 
arts at post graduate level. The College is part of The Edward James 
Foundation, a charitable educational trust located on the 6,400 acre West Dean 
Estate in beautiful West Sussex countryside near Chichester. The College is 
affiliated to the University of Sussex.

The College is organised as two Schools, Arts and Conservation, each comprising 
a range of programmes and courses from introductory short courses, continued 
professional development to full time Masters degrees. From Autumn Term 2018, 
we are wishing to recruit a new Head of School - Conservation to take 
responsibility for the School's academic leadership, development and management.

Reporting to the Director of Education you will provide effective academic 
leadership and operational management for the School, further building its' 
reputation as a centre of excellence across the existing courses whilst 
developing new areas of curriculum particularly in relation to the conservation 
of modern materials and media. You will be expected to make a significant 
contribution to teaching and research within the field.

To be successful in this role you will have recent and relevant higher 
education experience in a programme or departmental management role in 
conservation or an allied subject. You'll also be an experienced people manager 
with a track record of building effective teams, an expert communicator with 
the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels. You will need 
to have academic and professional credibility evidenced by personal achievement 
in research, consultancy or professional practice together with experience of 
curriculum and course development.
