Associate Laboratory Coordinator
Department of Textile Conservation The Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, NY 10028 General Description: The work responsibilities of the full time Associate Laboratory Coordinator relate to several aspects of the Department of Textile Conservation (DTC) lab maintenance. It includes supervision of lab facilities, environment, equipment, inventory and storage of conservation materials and tools, as well as providing technical support to conservators. Primary Responsibilities and Duties: Stocking laboratories, managing chemical inventories (Safety Data Sheets) Assisting with environment-related work including hygrothermograph (data logger), pest control, and chemical removal/inventory DI water system maintenance Maintaining inventory and distribution of conservation materials Maintaining departmental reference collection Researching of storage solutions and updating conservation materials Coordinating communication between DTC and museum shops for work requests using JIRA software Assisting conservators with material preparation including sewing tapestry linings and straps Assisting conservators with dying, wet cleaning, gallery work Assisting conservators in maintaining archive of scientific documentation Assisting in preparation of experiments and/or archiving specimens Scheduling maintenance and repair visits for equipment. Overseeing cleanliness of laboratory Arranging bi-annual fire drills Other related duties Requirements and Qualifications: At least one year of work experience as laboratory technician or other related position (preferred) Ability to work with analytical equipment Familiarity with scientific research techniques Familiarity with museum environmental standards (required) Understanding of textile materials (preferred) Demonstrable photography and computer skills for the purpose of documentation Very good organizational, communication and team working skills Meticulous attention to detail Demonstrated ability to manage concurrent responsibilities in a busy environment Some lifting may be required Knowledge and Education: Required: B.S. in textile science or related field Knowledge related to conservation materials (preferred) Familiarity with conservation, especially within a museum environment (preferred) All Interested candidates should direct resumes to care...@metmuseum.org -- Emilia Cortes Conservator Department of Textile Conservation E-mail: emilia.cor...@metmuseum.org Tel.
