I pose this question to the readers of theDistList: Do youbelieve that the techniques of wall-painting detachment, as risky as they are, should be included in today's conservation curriculum? I think you need to rethink yourquestion. In fact is your question relevant if the choice for a wall paintingis detachment or destruction? Let me ask you this: for what percentage ofpaintings that have been detached in the last – say – 20 years, were these theoptions? Once you have deducted those from the number detached, we willbe better informed to make a judgement.
