Those titles could be good leads, but
Here's a nice recording of Little Billy Wilson by Jane Rothfield. I don't know
how long it is because I only heard the snippet:

I'd look for other good 40-bar tunes like:
* Three Thin Dimes
* Three-way Hornpipe
* The Snoring
Let's try that again with the link included.
Here's a 40-bar singing square from the 1950s. It's only 6 times through, but
it's in five 8-bar phrases (two in the "A" part, three in the "B").

I'm going to head off-list and talk to my friend Norb Spencer,
accordionist extraordinaire, major tune-hound, and player of all three
likely-to-be-not-32 genres (Oldtime, Fr.C, and Scottish). Watch this

Hi Amy,
You asked about the 40-bar dance.
The dance I am currently working on is " Ladies Walk Around Their

I was at a dance on New Year's Eve where it was called and realised it

Hi Dave,
No, I didn’t mean to be that specific. 8s and 16s are fine -
it’s the 12/24 that messes it up. (Sorry, I’m a dancer, not a musician, so I
think in beats since I don’t really know what a bar is!) (OK, I do really - I
play concertina by ear for the Morris, but have no
Hi Brooke,
Yes, that would break the Hey up for the dance that I have in
mind. I have Dr Faustus’ Jig for 16-16-24-24. I really need 16-16-16-16-16.
Happy dancing,
John
Have you tried the Scottish repertoire/resources?

Patch the Pipes is for an English dance of mine with fairly specific
choreography to fit the tune.. The tune structure is two 8-bar A phrases
followed by two 12-bar B phrases. I wouldn't think it would be a good
choice for a contra dance.

Hi all,
Despite having an extensive collection of music I have nothing
suitable for a 40 bar contra dance.
Please can anyone recommend any good recordings of 40 bars and
7 to 11 times through? Preferably they should be downloadable individually.
