Hi Jeff! It does vary by community... If you played at 120 and up where I
dance, the dance would be empty and/or over halfway through. Even at
116-120, older/less fit dancers are getting frustrated, sitting down to
catch their breath, and leaving early.
In my experience, 112-114 is the sweet
UPDATE on the DATE: The dance is most likely to be Sept. 30 or Oct. 1, not
Oct. 2.
And a caller will be needed, as well as a band.

A caller may also be needed, someone experienced with calling one-night
stands. Probably will be a large amount of newbies.

Julian, I don't know how old you are. That plays a role in promotion and
"the height of your profile", as does where you live and do the bulk of
your calling.
I developed my skills in Texas/Oklahoma, and had a good reputation as a
reliable and creative caller there. But being in TX is like being

dances a year? And are you the only caller in the area?
Joe-- There are theories in the contra world about how long a beginners
session should be before the dance. Some believe that going in depth is the
way to go, teaching
Seth, it took a few times walking/drawing this dance through before I made
it work correctly. The key is making sure that everyone remembers that you
make a 180-degree turn when you "pass through" the end. And when you're an
inside couple headed out, itt becomes clumsy.. First move- angle left
