The gnome-user-docs seem to cause this; after removing them,
scrollkeeper-rebuilddb no longer blocks.

Mine finished after about 10 minutes or so (750MHz notebook). Subsequent
runs of 'scrollkeeper-update -q' now go instantaneous. I wonder

No, it just takes a loong time. Over 20 mins on my 1 GHz PIII.
