Have you tried with a normal MDK kernel? BTW, the "../" error should no
longer occur with recent OOo versions (at least 1.0.2-7mdk).

yes.
I moved /mnt/mega to /mega so the ../ error does no longer occur. But everything
else still segfaults.

I don't have one.

~% LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/openoffice/program /usr/lib/openoffice/program/setup.bin
zsh: 9013 segmentation fault LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/openoffice/program

You never told me what the proper procedure is. I never knew there was
one. I looked in the docs and I never found anything. The only thing I
ever needed was typing oofice.

Except from the kernel which is a default linux-kernel this is a default
mdk system.

And /home is in /mnt/mega/home with a symlink to /home.

On the other hand you also fail to give proper instructions whereas I
replied to all your good questions to the letter. I can't do more.

check:

rpm -q glibc
ls -l /lib/i686

I had a wrong symlink to an old glibc lib on one of my cooker machines.

1) Try this:
- Remove the OOo 1.0.2 entry from ~/.sversionrc
- Remove the (previous?) OOo 1.0.2 installation directory, but not
really needed
- LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/openoffice/program
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/setup.bin
and try a normal user installation to your home directory.

2) You still fail to give enough details to reproduce your bug from the
start. I am sure this is not a standard 9.1 installation. Henceforth,
you have to tell me what you changed/added to your system.

Can other people from Cooker confirm what's Han doing? I tried several
procedures, but it still doesn't crash for me. :-(

Hi,

/usr/lib/openoffice/program/setup, with destination dir as ~/.openoffice
segfaults
- Make sure to really remove ~/.user60.rdb ~/.sversionrc (or the
adequate entry), prior to trying this.
- echo $SECURE_LEVEL?
- permissions on / and /proc ?
- rpm -q XFree86-libs freetype2 zlib1 libdb3.3 libdb4.0?
- with a soffice script patched as described earlier, try to
SAL_DEBUGGER=gdb /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice
(commands: run, , where)

Bye,

Oh, you could also try to hand install from the GUI. For this, rm -rf
~/.openoffice ~/.sversionrc ~/.user60.rdb. Then
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/setup, with destination dir as ~/.openoffice.

What gives
ls -l /usr/lib/openoffice/program/spadmin /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice

The former should be a valid symlink to the latter.

No it still isn't fixed. Some people add comments to this report while they are
clearly speaking of another bug.

My problem has been fixed for the last couple updates.
Was it freetype2 by any chance?

Bye,

It's still valid, and with rc2 I see a lot of duplicates of this bug. :(

What is the official method to ``install'' OOo for a user after removing the
dot-rcfiles?

There is still another problem:

~% cd ../../../usr/lib/openoffice/program
cd: no such file or directory: ../../../usr/lib/openoffice/program
~% cd ../../../../usr/lib/openoffice/program
/usr/lib/openoffice/program%

This is cause by the fact that my ~ is /mnt/mega/home/han and not /home/han

A solution for the problem of OpenOffice.org crashing dependent on what
printers/PPD files are used is already found. It is a bug in OpenOffice.org:

http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=11616

Gwenole will include the fix in the next version of OpenOffice.org on the Cooker.

> nmap for printing!?

nmap is used by printerdrake to auto-detect network printers (printers directly
connected to the ethernet) and Windows boxes with shared printers. See the
network scanning options in the "Add printer" wizard of printerdrake.

I don't have a printer indeed. After I lied to printerdrake I had one I got the
following packages installed:

foomatic-db-3.0-0.beta1.20030213
foomatic-filters-3.0-0.beta1.20030213
libijs0-0.34
mpage-2.5.3
foomatic-db-engine-3.0-0.beta1.20030213
printer-filters-1.0
printer-utils-1.0
scli-0.2.9
printer-testpages-1.0
libgimp1.2_1-1.2.3
nmap-3.00

nmap for printing!?

Very well possible it still won't work since my kernel doesn't support a parport.

rmmod: module lp is not loaded
rmmod: module parport_pc is not loaded
rmmod: module parport_probe is not loaded
rmmod: module parport is not loaded
modprobe: Can't locate module parport_pc
modprobe: Can't locate module parport_pc
modprobe: Can't locate module lp
modprobe: Can't locate module lp
modprobe: Can't locate module parport_probe
modprobe: Can't locate module parport_probe
rmmod: module parport_probe is not loaded

And now openoffice still doesn't work:

~% ooffice
Installation of OpenOffice.org 1.0.2 failed

Would be odd if you need a printer to get a big editor working.

I just started having this problem as well. It worked a couple days
ago. It must be printer related.

Using spadmin from the local user, I changed the default printer from
the configured one to "Generic printer". OO.o then started normally.
It crashed as soon as I tried to print to the configured printer.

This is using a newly (printerdrake) configured HP Photosmart P1115
printer.

I tried it with gnome, kde, fluxbox, from the menu and from an aterm and I
always get the same result. So that is not a factor.

I have only tested OOo in KDE, and this always happens there.
This is always on a clean installation, with newly created users.

Likewise here with a cooker system as of now (2003/02/14 20:30). Opened up
an OOo Impress presentation and it works. Reporter, please tell result of
cat ~/.sversionrc. Possibly rm -rf ~/.openoffice ~/.sversionrc
~/.user60.rdb

Tested as per Han on #cooker; ooffice does run for me (latest version, freshly
installed from cooker today; wasn't previously installed). Opened up a word doc
and it worked fine. Opened two more times just to make sure and it likewise
worked fine.
