Using 9.1 RC2, installed via upgrade from 9.0, whenever konqueror runs as a file
manager on the home directory, CPU usage maxes out to 100% and the display of
the file manager contents flickers continually. The program top indicates that
konqueror, fam and kdeinit are sharing the CPU load (and X of course).

The problem disappears immediately when a directory other than the home
directory is displayed.

I have tried setting the value of the default directory to both /home/damon and
~, but this makes no difference.

Confusingly, the home directory itself contains entries for ALL users that are
on the server this computer authenticates against at login time using ypbind,
even though none of them (apart from myself) have ever logged in here. I'm not
sure if that has something to do with it. In case it is of any use, this is

Last cooker update seems to have resolved the problem. "Show hidden Files"
is checked and no .fonts.cache files show and no flickering. This was
kdebase-3.1-81mdk I believe that resolved the problem.

Same here with kdebase 3.1-76mdk. If I move files for which konqueror tries to
create a preview (like text files and images) somwhere else then there is no
refreshing of home directory. I deleted all .fonts.cache* files and the problem
appears to be gone now.

Btw, only "icon view" in konqueror is affected by the display flickers. The "tree
view"
(even with "view hidden files" turned on) has no problem.

And I don't have "view hidden files" turned on ...
I wait for new releases to correct this and the display flickers :)

Actually, I don't have "view hidden files" enabled. In the Konqueror
window there is just 18 items... no dot-files are showing. I was
viewing the creation of the .font.cache-TMP* files from a konsole window
while changing the preview settings in Konqueror.

[Cooker] [Bug 2824] [kdebase] Konqueror displays home directory incorrectly and with very high CPU usage

2003-03-06 Thread avalon
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2824

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-06 21:00 ---
I just tried that (I had 510 in my directory), but when starting
konqueror, it still flickered. Checking the directory I found more
.font.cache files... I looks and found that it seems that konqueror is
creating or causing these files to be created, which is causing the
flicker becuase it has to update the folder display when a file is added.

In just about 10 seconds I had 96 files again. I just tested an idea by
doing ls -a .font* | wc -l while enabling and disabling image
previewing. The files stopped being created when you turn off image
preview, but when you enable it, the files are rapidly created,
somewhere about 5 - 10 a second

I hope this helps...

[Cooker] [Bug 2824] [kdebase] Konqueror displays home directory incorrectly and with very high CPU usage

remove all .font-cache-1* files from these directories
I had more than 500 of these and this triggered the flickering

of course fontconfig bug should be fixed otherwise all these files could reapper
quickly

description:

In case it is of any use, this is
/etc/fstab:

"the display of the file manager contents flickers continually."
Same for me :-(
It is a really recent bug, because older Mandrake KDE 3.1 releases worked
perfectly.

I can confirm this.

Unrealated... I can't vote for this bug because I am only allowed one vote per
component. I have a vote for a kdebase package and can not vote for this one.
This is pretty stupid. How am I supposed to confirm bugs??? This might be why
so many bugs stay in an unconfirmed status. This needs to be addressed.

Bret.
