Hi Martin and Paul Somehow your replies had been buried in the junk folder... sorry. In ccp4i2, I get that error and coot doesn't start. After the most recent upgrade and updating Xquartz (2.8.0), I can now run coot from the application list, seems to be fine. So it seems it's a ccp4i2 issue - I'll report in ccp4i2 bb! Which xquartz version are you using? For me at least, coot via ccp4 works with quartz 2.8.0 and 2.8.1beta1.
