You know, taking a step back and looking at this, I am not even sure the
payload or the OS even needs to be involved in the discussion because:
shouldn't coreboot alone be able to show a bootsplash image? If I enable that,
and it isn't happening anymore

I've successfully finished the migration and also updated Gerrit to
version 3.10. The version bump brings quite a lot new things :)
It took longer than expected, unfortunately, even with an extra long
maintenance time.
