The coreutils package is managed by the MacPorts package manager. It
installs in /opt/local and probably used the Apple enhanced GCC 4.2.4.
In an environment with
LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8
LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
gdf displays:
pete 309 /\ gdf -Th -t hfs -t smbfs
