[CoTyroneMailingList] James Duffin and Mary Rollands

2019-07-08 Thread Peggy Gordon via CoTyroneList
James Duffin and Mary Caulfield were married at Coalisland in 1822. All of
their children were baptised at Ballyclog-Donaghenry RC parish, and the family
lived in Kilsally.I  have learned that the parents of James Duffin were James
Duffin and Mary Rollands. Since James Jr. was born 1790-1791, I am guessing
that James Sr. and Mary Rollands were possibly married about 1785-1790. Does
anyone have any suggestions as to where I might find their marriage? Thanks for
any helpPeggy___

Dear Listers

Especially for those of us looking at new areas .

A very handy website for Irish maps is online at

http://map.geohive.ie/mapviewer.html

One can move around freely, also zoom in or out on any area -- allows the user
to see
successive (or previous) levels of detail coming up for historic maps.

A fascinating and effective resource, extremely well "stitched together" in
allowing interplay between the different scales of historical maps.

Hope others will find it helpful too.

100 000 ways of looking at Ireland ...!

[CoTyroneMailingList] Coulter Family

2019-07-08 Thread elwyn soutter via CoTyroneList
Barb,

You say you can't find my message, so I am resending it:

Cooel is part of Coolavannagh townland, or an alternative name for it.
Today that’s on the Glen Rd outside Drumquin. I see a death for a
William Coulter in Cooel on 3.2.1884 aged 67. His son William was the
informant.

There’s this 1 Coulter family there in 1901:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tyrone/Clunahill/Coolavannagh/1722817/

Son Samuel was born at Cooel on 15.4.1872, and from that birth
certificate I can see his parents were William Coulter & Catherine
Wilson. You can see where the family farmed using the maps on the
Griffiths Valuation site:

http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml

Use the slider bar in the top rh corner to overlay a modern map on the
contemporaneous one.

Same family in 1911:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Tyrone/Clunahill/Coolavannagh/852722/

Drumquin Presbyterian church only has records from 1845 onwards so
there are unlikely to be any records for the births of your John
Coulter c 1760 etc. There’s no Coulter family farming in Cooel in the
1826 tithes. There was a William farming in Curraghamulkin which is
not too far away. I have no way of saying whether he’s the William who
stayed in Ireland.

Thanks Len! I had seen several of these records, but not all of them. You
are such an amazing wealth of information.
For some reason, I am not able to see Elwyn’s response - yours is the only one
that shows up.
Thanks again,
Barb
