Re: [CoTyroneMailingList] Visiting Tyrone and County Donegal in March to research Ancestors

2020-02-26 Thread patrick woodcock via CoTyroneList
I am listing the information below of what I have pieced together either by
direct sources or by other relations.

My 2nd great-grandfather Patrick Hagerty was born around 1820 In Tyrone. He
immigrated to the United States in the 1840's. I was told his brother, John E.
Hagerty, born around 1822, immigrated later to the United States (around 1860)
and did live in the town of Omagh. I believe their father's name was Michael
who was born around 1795. I do not have a date of death.

My 2nd great grandmother was Alice O'Donnell who was born in Donegal in 1828
(august 15th) and her husband (my 2nd great grandfather) named Charles
McLaughlin was also born in Ireland in 1820.
I do not know any details of Charles McLaughlin, nor do I know if they were
married before immigrating to the United States.

The daughter of Charles McLaughlin and Alice O'Donnell, married the son of
Patrick Hagety and his wife, who would later be my great grand parents.

best regards,
Patrick

My wife and I are going to Ireland in march. While there, we will be visiting
County Tyrone and County Donegal. I’m trying to find additional information on
My Ancestor’s, Specifically the Hagerty and O’Donnell lineage. I believe some
family member’s lived in Omagh.

Any help with these family names as well as places I should see while in the
area would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Re: [CoTyroneMailingList] County Tyrone Tour

2020-02-26 Thread Darlene Mulligan via CoTyroneList
Hello Katherine!

My ancestors came from Omagh, although many of them left via Londonderry in
1823, sailing to North America. William and Sara Adams left Omagh with their
6 children. Sadly, both parents died en route and were buried at sea, leaving
the family in the care of the eldest son and his new wife.

We visited Omagh last June, but only had a day to visit - not enough time to do
any deep investigating. But since you plan to be in that area, you really
MUST plan to visit the
Ulster American Folk Park. just outside of Omagh. There is a great deal to
be learned and experienced at this important location.

The local (Omagh) bus depot serves the area very well to a wide range of other
towns and cities, so if you already have an idea of the other areas you might
want to include on your visit, you will find the bus system very easy to use at
a minimal cost. There is also a rather modern office close to the bus depot
that has a wealth of literature, maps and information about many of the
historical locations. You can also arrange for a tour guide at this office.

Good luck!
Darlene

Re: [CoTyroneMailingList] - Quigley

Hi Katherine
Not an answer to your question, but another question.
How well do you know your family tree? My 2x great grandmother was Maria
Quigley (b1843 (approx), Irelend - d1910, Consett, Co Durham). I have very
little background for her and no real evidence that she came from Tyrone.
However, I believe she was Catholic (children baptised in Catholic churches)
and there are strong links between Tyrone and Consett; my great grandfather
married Margaret Mullin, who was definitely from Tyrone.Maria Quigley married
my 2x great Grandfather, John Dixon, in 1873.
Does any of this fit with your knowledge of your family? As I say, I have very
little info on Maria's origins. It would be great if you could identify a link
and clear up this mystery.
Regards
Ian Moules

Hello Listers,

Does anyone have a recommendation on someone who does genealogy tours in county
Tyrone? I will be going on my first trip there and it might be nice to have
someone who can show us around. We would be in the Omagh/Castlederg area.

Thank you for any information,

Boyd,
Some of both. We have some information, and we know where some of the family
sites are, but we are looking for more.

Thanks,

Katherine
