Is it possible to configure the courier-imap server to make folders appear
on the same level as the inbox. The default setting where all folders are
subfolders of the inbox is not what my users expect to see in their
mailclient. I can't find any documentation on this.

There's an old saying: unsubscribing from a mailing list that you previously
subscribed to is a basic intelligence test on the Internet.

Does anyone have a suggestion for /etc/pam.conf
on a Solaris 10 system to get courier-imap working?
This is what I have to date.

Login to your imap server with root. What happens when you
`su - myuser` ?

There is not a difference using any
account. I get the same result.

So, you made the imap entries in pam.conf the same as the login
entries? I would use 'other' instead of 'imap'.

I know, that's what I meant with 'root folder'. But if you do that, it
becomes impossible to create a subfolder of the inbox (it will
automatically appear at the same level as the inbox). I want to have
some folders as subfolders of the inbox (like some mailinglists), but

You can do this by simply naming the Folder "Inbox.Name" (minus the
quotes of course).
Scratch that - it will create the folder, but apparently doesn't like
something about it cause it complains that it needs to be subscribed to...
Sorry...

I'm not sure what is causing this error?

I do not think that that is supposed to work and I have found it
irrelevant to even try. I have the sam

Will do, and thanks for the added info. It'll probably be after Christmas
before I get time to do this, but I'm leaving your note in my to-do queue

I don't know either. Show me what's in your debug log, as described at
http://www.courier-mta.org/authlib/R
Here is the debug output.

Hooray!
Removing the DEFDOMAIN with my domain
name cured the pam authentication problem. I guess I should remove
/etc/pam.conf options from the pam stack until it breaks to get a lock
on those settings for other Solaris 10 folks.
The DEFDOMAIN domain requirments were not so clear to me obviously.
