[courier-users] courier does not more accept mails if I am off-line
Hello, I do not know, what I have done, but if I send a message from my Laptop or my workstation, ANYTHING in my network must go over my Intranet mailserver mail.private.tamay-dogan.net. (see header of this message) Also I have dns.private.tamay-dogan.net which is the master for private.tamay-dogan.net and chache for the rest and catch anything before requests go out of my @home network. This all ist working fine, but since two weeks I can not more send messages if my Internet connection goes down... This should not be! The ssmtp config of my workstation is: [ '/etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf' ]- root=r...@michelle1.private.tamay-dogan.net mailhub=mail.private.tamay-dogan.net rewriteDomain=michelle1.private.tamay-dogan.net hostname=michelle1.private.tamay-dogan.net FromLineOverride=YES and the [ '/etc/resolv.conf' ]-- search private.tamay-dogan.net nameserver 192.168.0.74 which is correct too. But now sending a message, mutt tell me it can not resolv the Domain tamay-dogan.net... Tracing it back show me, that this message comes from courier and the problem is NOT in mutt. So, the question is, why does courier not more accept any messages and send it, if the internet connection comes back? I want the previosly behaviour, that it accept ANY mesages from my *.private.tamay-dogan.net network. Most people had plenty of issues with it, and nobody could help them, since -- despite your claims of vchkpw's popularity -- its userbase is practically non-existent. Qmail is dead, and has been dead for many years now. And without Qmail, vchkpw has no future. Anyone who has concerns about long term future of their mail platform, should've made plans long ago to migrate from Qmail to any one of many other actively used mail servers. The remaining Qmail user base is just the existing, legacy servers. Nobody with a sane mind would install a brand new Qmail server these days. Not when it lacks pretty much every feature all modern mail servers are expected to offer, and especially if installing it automatically qualifies one for blacklisting as a source of abusive backscatter bounce bombs. I've got more than a thousand IPs blacklisted for mailbombing me with garbage bounces -- I'd say at least a third of them are Qmail-running morons. Can't someone help us out here? Although there were several offers to maintain vchkpw support in Courier -- and the offer to become a co-maintainer of the vchkpw module is still open to anyone who wants to take it -- once they realize what kind of commitment that involves, nobody followed through. The best help anyone will be able to offer you is advice on migrating off Qmail to something that's actually had a new release, in the last couple of years. If someone volunteered to step up to the plate and be responsible for maintaining vchkpw code, they are welcome to do so. But nobody seriously did it, in more than six months now, so the realistic chances of that happening are slim to none. -- Open Source Business Conference (OSBC), March 24-25, 2009, San Francisco, CA -OSBC tackles the biggest issue in open source: Open Sourcing the Enterprise -Strategies to boost innovation and cut costs with open source participation -Receive a $600 discount off the registration fee with the source code: SFAD http://p.sf.net/sfu/XcvMzF8H ___ courier-users mailing list courier-users@lists.sourceforge.net Unsubscribe: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/courier-users -- http://alexus.org/ -- Open Source Business Conference (OSBC), March 24-25, 2009, San Francisco, CA -OSBC tackles the biggest issue in open source: Open Sourcing the Enterprise -Strategies to boost innovation and cut costs with open source participation -Receive a $600 discount off the registration fee with the source code: SFAD http://p.sf.net/sfu/XcvMzF8H ___ courier-users mailing list courier-users@lists.sourceforge.net Unsubscribe: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/courier-users

You don't need _any_ 2nd party software to support virtual mail in Courier. See http://www.courier-mta.org/FAQ.html#vdomains. The way I use here is described about halfway down the section - The other way to implement virtual domains is by using a custom authentication back-end, etc. It's very simple to do. Re: [courier-users] courier does not more accept mails if I am off-line
Hello Gordon, Am 2009-02-13 13:02:11, schrieb Gordon Messmer: Do you find that error in your Courier system's logs? Only that it can not resolv tamay-dogan.net How is mutt sending mail? Does it connect to your Courier server, or to a local ssmtp server? ssmtp Courier will only accept a message if the sender's domain resolves. If you want to send email while you are offline, you need to make sure that the local DNS server resolves the sender's address when you are offline. Mist! -- the sender is linux4miche...@tamay-dogan.net and since tamay-dogan.net is resolved by the DNS of my Hoster... it can not work That probably means that your local DNS server needs to be either the master or a slave for the private.tamay-dogan.net zone. It is already the Master... But the error is tamay-dogan.net. I think, I create a ZONE for tamay-dogan.net and then it should be no problem anymore.
