Re: [Coworking] Making the local press

2017-08-01 Thread Alex Hillman
This is about as good as coworking press gets. Excellent quotes and it's
especially good that member voices dominate.

I would do a lot of signal boosting, and go out of your way to thank the journo
for what they did well.

Why? Because relationships matter (duh). And more importantly, one piece of
press generally won't have much impact.

My experience and philosophy is that press is good for two things: getting more
press, and community morale.

But that's about it.

It CAN help with your credibility. It's valuable to have people other than you
telling part of your story. It's valuable to be in the zeitgeist.

But in terms of growing your community, press needs to be just one of MANY
touchpoints for somebody before they walk in the door, and often, is one of the
least influential. Celebrate it, but don't over-weight it.

So with that in mind, I would focus now on getting to know this writer, and
other local writers. Use this press to get more press. Prepare to be a broken
record. It's okay - most people haven't heard your story yet, so get used to
the feeling of "haven't I said this enough already?"

My approach to building press relationships is long-view. I don't pitch stories
until I know what stories they WANT. I do my homework to find out their take &
their worldview (aka what do the pieces they write have in common? Do I fit
that narrative, and how?)

Find out what kinds of stories do they WANT to cover, or do they think their
editor wants to print? I like to make it clear to any journo that I'm working
with that I view my job as making them look good with a great story.

I also use this as an opportunity to give them background context that they
might not have, or be able to think about, during a normal "interview" setting.

Use this experience to figure out how your story connects with their audience.

Oh, and frame your first piece of print. You'll be glad you did 10 years later,
trust me ;)

And whatever you did to get that first piece, keep that up!!

[Coworking] Internal Directory for Members

2017-08-01 Thread elie
Has anyone found a successful tool to use for an internal directory of
members? Ideally looking for something easily edited that could include a
few details about each member, and possibly link to their company website
etc. Looking for something simple and not connected to an entire CRM/SAAS
product. Only need is for a great looking and detailed directory of current
members! Have looked in to products like Pingboard but we currently have no
need for the full breadth of products there (although they are seeming a
wonderful product)!

[Coworking] Co-working space in Brisbane

2017-08-01 Thread David Yeung
Hi All,

I am new to co working space and would appreciate feedback to below. I
have a vacant building in Brisbane Australia which I want to transform into
an amazing co-working space. I would appreciate if there is co-founder of
co-working space in that can assist in this matter, especially someone from
Sydney or Brisbane. I am currently living in Sydney.

- How much office space required per member?
- Whats the ratio of Permanent membership Vs Casual membership?
- Any assistance in designing a co-working space. Do you contacts to
interior designers in the Brisbane area which i can use?
- Software use?
- Is there a breakeven point for the number of members you have to sign
up? How many members do we wish to achieve per site. What is the ideal
size of each site?

I would appreciate your feedback and love to talk to you privately.

Cheers
David

[Coworking] Re: Is your space in a converted factory, warehouse, bank, school, etc?

2017-08-01 Thread melissa
Hi Carolyn,

I run a new neighborhood-based coworking space in the Boston area called
The Village Works. Our building was a 19th century hardware store that's
lived many lives (mixed use residential and paint store, fish market,
restaurant, pub, medical offices). It was vacant for five years before we
started our reuse project. We opened in April 2017.

You can learn more at thevillageworks.com. I'm happy to provide high res
versions of our images if helpful

All the best,
Melissa Tapper Goldman (meli...@thevillageworks.com)
