Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] Kepler is GO!

2013-06-26 Thread David M Williams
Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. sounds like you didn't test 'staging'. Until today,
/releases/kepler was a composite with 3 RCs, but not RC4, which was only
at /releases/staging. Which is what people were asked to test against. And
now /releases/kepler is just one repo (RC4 aka staging). The other RCs
have been disconnected from composite and will be removed soon.

Sincerely sorry for the last minute change in an earlier RC, but ... I
know others who missed it being at ../releases/staging and they were
able to adjust. If you need help recovering, open a cross-project bug
and I'll give what advise I can. You likely just have to get from ECF
repo, if you can't move to httpclient4. (And, FYI, this is why we suggest
that projects include what you need, don't count on someone else
providing it coincidentally). I'm not sure if you are talking from the
point of view a release-train participant, or someone who just happened to
be using it as a convenient source of everything?

Thanks,

2013-06-26 Thread Adolfo Sanchez-Barbudo Herrera

Hi Tom, Scott,

I think that releases/kepler is not the right place to check RC4 content.

If I'm not wrong releases/kepler composed RC1, RC2, RC3 until today,
where the final RC4 (or RC4a) is finally available and others are kicked
out... That's the reason why yesterday some content was there, today
(since 9:00am Eastern) might not be.

Another point is ... which are the causes about why your content is not
present in the repository which finally was composed by the
releases/kepler today... I have no clues here.

Cheers,
Adolfo.

Like you said one can get around this problem by simply adding the

missing.

In the end I think we need to investigate why some ecf stuff is missing

Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] Kepler is GO!

2013-06-26 Thread David M Williams
Here's all I know.

ECF contributes org.eclipse.ecf.core feature, and I don't see either
httpclient or httpclient4 included explicitly in there. Guess you are
expecting some other bundle in there pulls in one or both? If so, it was
not in most recent 'staging' repo. There has been no new build, or
anything of 'staging' for over a week.

The wrinkle I know about is that for a while, the Platform was mistakenly
including httpclient (3) when all we intended to include was httpclient4.
I asked about this in bug 408915 ... mostly meaning to just ask about it
... and before I knew it, was removed by committer, so _we_ contributed
just what we wanted to, and not extra things that some people had come to
expect to be there, provided by others upstream from them. So, that was
the reason for my apology, assuming it was something Platform removed
late, during RC period. Something we should not have done casually. And,
I know Gyrex was biten by this too.

But, if ecf.core was supposed to include this too ... then ... not sure
why that wasn't working.

Hope this helps give a little more data or insight.

Digging around a bit, this is what I found out:

- The repository contains the filetransfer.httpclient4 bundles exclusively
now, whereas earlier RCs also contained the filetransfer.httpclient bundles

- ECF itself didn't contribute the filetransfer.httpclient(4) bundles in
their aggregator build at all

- It seems like it used to be pulled in by org.eclipse.equinox.p2.sdk and
org.eclipse.equinox.p2.core

- P2 have switched to httpclient4 in the meantime, so the old bundles aren't
included anymore...

No, ecf.core is not supposed to include httpclient (or httpclient4). In
fact, it would create a problem for us and our consumers if it did,
because then install of ecf.core into Eclipse could be a problem.

Given the platform's decision to use only httpclient4...and not include
the legacy httpclient provider...I'm honestly not sure what else we can
do other than to make our repo available with all filetransfer
impls...as we have done [1]. Apologies for the surprise, however...the
platform and aggregator build surprised me/us as well.
