in FF 2.0.0.8 and noticed that when I used the
keyboard to activate the menu and moved to the sub-menus, only the
currently selected menu item displayed... all of the preceeding menu
components disappeared. Is this how it is supposed to work?

I am running FF 1.0.5 and the gap also displayed for me. I tried to
reload the page to see if it cleared it, but it did not.
Sorry I don't have any tips, but thought you might be interested to
know that it also displays a gap for me.
