I'm attempting a two column layout for a simple set of web pages: menu on
the left, with an image background beneath the menu.
The only way I could get the image to display was by putting it in the
"#wrapper". If I tried to add background-image: to the column definition,
"#left", it did not display.

Now, when I try to position text in the left column, using a <div>, the
text section starts a new image, just for it's defined depth, overwriting
the background image. I want it to position it accurately and float it
transparently over the image.

I'd really like to do this with CSS, and not revert to a table layout and a
bunch of <br>'s.

Is there a tutorial or example that could be recommended? (I'm much more of
a plumber, working with back-end scripts, not so much design.)

Do you want the work in progress posted so it can be examined? ( I'm used
to my own debugging, but this CSS stuff I find pretty bewildering.)

( Here's the copyright notice from the sample I'm building with: Owen
Briggs @ www.thenoodleincident.com (for the font css file) (c) Big John @
www.positioniseverything.net and (c) Paul O'Brien @ www.pmob.co.uk, all of
whom contributed significantly to the design of the css and html code.
All other content is (c) ClevaTreva Designs )

Thanks - Miles Thompson
