A minor update, adding the argument key "no sep" which adds something to the
argument, but with no separator from any previous argument. Also corrects a bug
in the symbol class type where, under certain circumstances, a new object could
not be created due to a misspelled command name.

CTAN update: SemanTeX

2022-09-23 Thread CTAN Announcements
Sebastian Ørsted submitted an update to the

SemanTeX

package.

Version number: 0.520
License type: lppl1.3c

Summary description: Semantic, keyval-based mathematics

Announcement text:
--

A clean-up update that should not change much for the end user. The most
important changes are:

* The commands \NewObject, \NewVariableClass, \NewSimpleClass, and
\NewSymbolClass now check whether the command name is already defined and, if
so, issues an error. In casesomeone wants to override this behaviour, commands
\DeclareObject, \DeclareVariableClass, \DeclareSimpleClass, and
\DeclareSymbolClass have been added.

* Some internal changes have been made which should allow issue-free use of
active (and math active) characters as names of classes and objects. Previously,
this was possible, but the system could not properly distinguish between
and \ as object or class names.

* The deprecated class types Cohomology and Delimiter have now been removed. So
has the key "degree default" which was defined to be equivalent to "sep d".

* The stripsemantex ID markup commands have been changed from \SemantexIDcommand
to \SemantexID. This has required some changes in the names of commands in the
.semtex file.

* A section 12.4 has been added which shows how to create a binary operator
command that can also be applied to n elements.

Keys like "upper -", "lower -", "-" etc. have been removed; those were
previously aliases of "upper slot", "lower slot", "slot" etc. The reason
for the removal of these is that it causes confusion when you want to use
a minus sign as in index, as in "\vy[-]". Furthermore, due to a previous,
failed find-and-replace operation, keys like "lower *" were accidentally
called "lower **", while what was supposed to be "lower **" was really
called "lower ***". The error was not present in the "upper" equivalents
of these keys.

CTAN update: SemanTeX

2021-07-26 Thread CTAN Announcements
Sebastian Ørsted submitted an update to the

SemanTeX

package.

Version: 0.511 2021-07-25

Summary description: Semantic, keyval-based mathematics

Announcement text:
--

 Version: 0.509 2021-07-24 :
Makes a very fundamental change. From now on, when you output to
a class or use commands like \ or \UseClassInCommand\,
you no longer render the data of the class itself (with the updated
settings provided by you, e.g. where you change the symbol).
Instead, you render an object called object_associated_to_class_
which is of class \. This seems to me a more natural way of
solving things. There will be very little change in the user experience,
though, apart from some error messages being formulated slightly differently.

 Version: 0.510 2021-07-24 :
Corrected a bug introduced in the previous version.

 Version: 0.511 2021-07-25 :
Corrected a new, minor error in the previous version (in fact,
in a class type which is explicitly deprecated).

v0.501
A minor update to the previous update 0.500, fixing a (very important)
error in the manual.

v0.500
A relatively big update, at least in terms of syntax. Apart from bug
fixes, the most important changes are:
* The keyval syntax has been changed so that it now includes SPACES,
similarly to the TikZ keyval syntax. In other words, keys like
“upperleft” are now called “upper left”, and e.g. “d*withothersep” is
now “d * with other sep”. Sorry about this, but it’s better to change
it now than to annoy people later. And the syntax becomes a LOT
prettier this way.
* The Cohomology and Delimiter class types are now deprecated, as their
syntax only cause confusion. Instead, I encourage you to use the
Variable class type, which can essentially do the same thing. They are
still included for backwards compatibility, though.
* I have added keys for appending and pre-appending keys, i.e. adding
code to the left and the right of existing keys, similarly to what you
can do with pgfkeys.
* For technical reasons, it is no longer possible to create keys taking
9 arguments (in fact, the previous implementation turned out to be
buggy). So 8 is now the maximum. I hope to solve this issue later, but
I doubt anyone is even going to notice.

A minor update. The keys prime, ', '', and ''' have been changed
so that they automatically set nextupperwithsep=false, since you
 probably want f^{\prime 2} rather than f^{\prime,2}.
Also, the keys preupper, prelower, postupper, postlower etc.
have been changed so that e.g. multiple preupper’s are stacked
from left to right, rather than right to left as was previously
the case. For postupper, it’s from right to left instead.
I doubt this will require any updates to existing documents for
anyone. Also, I have also made a few minor changes in the manual.

A small update with one important change: The innerreturn

Sebastian Ørsted submitted an update to the

package.

Version: 0.45 2020-10-03

Apart from various bug fixes, there are quite a few changes:

 * Some keys have changed names (sorry about this, I promise it
will not happen too often). More precisely, keys like supper,
slower, supperleft, slowerleft, sd, and si have become sepupper,
seplower, sepupperleft, seplowerleft, sepd, and sepi, etc.
Similarly, cupper, clower, cupperleft, clowerleft, cd, and ci
have become commaupper, commalower, commaupperleft, commalowerleft,
commad, and commai. Similar changes apply to other keys using the
s- and c- prefixes for separator and comma.
These changes have been made to avoid awkward and confusing key
names like "slower", "supper", and "cupper".
Better change this now than annoy people later.

 * The key clone (previously an alias for copy) has been removed,
so stick to copy from now on.

 * The definition of \SemantexBullet has been changed to make it
compatible with changing math styles, based on code by egreg,
   see https://tex.stackexchange.com/a/564506/19809.
It has also become slightly bigger.
Furthermore, the definition has been moved entirely to the
semtex package, which is now being loaded by SemanTeX.

 * The keys boolifTF (and its variants) will now raise an error
if the boolean was not found; previously, it would run the false
code instead. I think the new behaviour is more natural.

Quite a big update. Apart from a few internal optimizations, it
greatly improves the stripsemantex algorithm, so that all SemanTeX
markup, including the one containing \SemantexDelimiterSize, can
now be completely stripped. Consequently, the key allowSemantexDelimiterSize
has been removed since it no longer serves any purpose.
The semtex package is therefore almost unnecessary, and I might decide
 to remove it completely later.
(The algorithm itself has also been changed a bit, so that it requires
more iterations, but it's worth it because of the previous improvement.)
The recommendations regarding set constructions and Laurent series have
 been updated.

A very big update, which elevates the package from an alpha to a beta.
The package is now regarded as more or less stable. Apart from fixing
more or less all known bugs and issues, and doing internal
improvements, the updates adds the following features:
* A companion package, called stripsemantex, which allows you to
completely strip your document of SemanTeX markup, to prepare it e.g.
for publication.
* Full support for left indices via the companion package, leftindex.
* All keys are now fully pre-digested for further optimizations.
* A more or less complete manual, more than twice as long as the old
one. The names of some important keys have been changed, including
those for defining other keys, so old documents will have to be updated.

CTAN Update: SemanTeX

A very big update that includes a complete rewriting of the
keyval machinery. This, together with other optimizations,
makes individual equations run about six times faster than
before, and whole documents with lots of SemanTeX become about
twice faster. At the same time, the system is much more robust,
removing the need for \noexpand’s all over the place.
Old documents should run after you remove \noexpand’s in your
 keyval setup.
I consider the system close to feature-complete, the next
project will be to make the manual better and more complete.

A major update, with lots of bug fixes and quite a few new features,
such as multi-value keys. Also, the syntax has been changed quite
dramatically, and old documents will have to be updated.
