CTAN update: etoc

Summary description: Completely customisable TOCs.

1.08b
Fixes to README

1.08a
\etocname, \etocnumber and \etocpage are now the robust variants of
\etocthelinkedname, \etocthelinkednumber and \etocthelinkedpage. This
should arguably have been done since the addition of the latter to etoc
with v1.07f [2013/03/07]. The earlier \etocname etc... contained the
hyperlink destination only in an unexpanded form.

The documentation has a brand new title page and a new section _The TOC
as a TikZ mind map_ both illustrating further uses of etoc to display
tables of contents as trees in an automatic manner.

Also, etoc.tds.zip uses the `latex` destination repertories, not the
`generic` ones as by mistake with recent release 1.08.

CTAN update: etoc

2015-03-13 Thread CTAN Announcements
Jean-François Burnol submitted an update to the

etoc

package.

Version number: 1.08 2015-03-10
License type: lppl1.3

Summary description: Completely customisable TOCs.

Announcement text:
--

\etocskipfirstprefix may now appear anywhere in the part of a level
  style.

  New commands \etociffirst, \etocxiffirst, \etocxifnumbered.

It is now possible to issue line style specifications directly with
and \\ tokens, in order to typeset a TOC as a tabular or longtable
with the opening for example in the first argument of \etocsettocstyle
and the closing in its second argument.

It is mandatory for such uses to issue \etocglobaldefs which tells
etoc to proceed globally for certain definitions. This is also useful
in the context of the inline environments of package enumitem.

On this occasion, various old parts of the code have been improved.

The previous release added a tocloft compatibility layer which however
broke memoir class compatibility (the memoir compatibility testing for
that release had been done before modifying the source code for tocloft
compatibility...). This is fixed here, as well as the related (but less
crippling) issue of the etoc tocvsec2 compatibility layer: nothing
special needs to be done under memoir's version of tocvsec2, contrarily
to the situation with the original package. Caveat: there still has not
been intensive testing of etoc under memoir class, so possibly some
other issues may arise at some point. Bug reports will be welcome.

CTAN Update: etoc

2014-03-08 Thread CTAN Announcements
Jean-François Burnol submitted an update to the

  etoc

package.

Version number: 1.07k
License type: lppl

Summary description: Completely customisable TOCs

Announcement text:
--

Etoc and tocloft may now be used concurrently in the same
document. In compatibility mode, etoc will obey the customizing
done by tocloft both for the contents and the title of the
table of contents; etoc's depth tags, \localtableofcontents,
label+ref mechanism are functional. It is possible to use etoc
contents and title styles for one TOC and tocloft's for another
one (tocloft should be loaded before etoc, else a warning will
 be issued.)

Also, better compatibility with the memoir class,

and one more example of etoc line styles specification has been
 added to the documentation.

CTAN Update: etoc

2013-10-18 Thread CTAN Announcements
On Wed, 16 Oct 2013 Jean-François Burnol submitted an update to the

v1.07h [2013/10/16]

 * new commands \etocdepthtag.toc {tag_name} and
   \etocsettagdepth {tag_name}{numeric_level_or_division_name}

These new commands allow to obtain easily the following kind of
effect: one wants each Part of a document to contain a table of
contents displaying the other Part headings, with no finer
division, whereas the Part itself will appear with all its own
sub-divisions.

This could already be done with the \etocsettocdepth.toc command
of recent releaser 1.07g, but was a bit of an overuse.

[2013/03/03]

The documentation has again being extended:

  * it is explained how to convert the TOC data into a tree in the
standard TikZ syntax (rather than the Qtree syntax used in the
previous documentation release from two days ago). And this time,
hyperlinks are functional (which explains why I felt like
announcing it world wide). The examples use the `grow cyclic'
style (from the TikZ trees library) and produce `molecule-type'
TOCs.

  * it is detailed how to tell the \tableofcontents command to
produce paragraphs of the following type: This chapter contains
5 sections and 17 subsections. The name of the first subsection
is `Do not read me' and the name of the last is `I told you so'.

Best regards,

thanks for the upload; i've installed the new version, and updated the
catalogue repository.

Announcement text given by the package's contributor:
 --
A new documentation section entitled `surprising uses of etoc' shows
how the package can create `lists of arbitrary things', in addition
to its usual job, still not using any other file than the .toc file.

   * new commands:

 \etocthename, \etocthenumber, \etocthepage, (they provide the
name, number, and page number without any hyperref decoration
  nor extra xspace)

 \etoclink (\etoclink{name} makes a link named `name' to the
original sectioning unit target, the same target to
 which are linked \etocname, \etocnumber and \etocpage)

 \etoctoccontentsline, \etoctoccontentsline* (macros to write
data to the .toc file to help the package do `lists of things',
besides its main job with tables of contents)

\etocnopar (to typeset a TOC or a ListOf inline as the package
default was to always start with a \par)

 various utility macros: \etocoldpar, \etocaftercontentshook

   * modified command: \etocmulticolstyle

Various clean-ups in the code. More examples of the use of the
 package included in the documentation.

CTAN Update: etoc

2012-12-11 Thread CTAN Announcements
Jean-François Burnol submitted an update to the

  etoc

package.

Summary description: easily customizable TOCs

  1. With previous versions, macros such as \l@section
recovered their standard meanings only in compatibility mode
at the time of typesetting TOCs. With this version, it is
the opposite: macros such as \l@section or \l@subsection
have throughout the document their standard meanings, which
means that they can be customized (even if no package has
added to them customizing hooks) and that the compatibility
mode of etoc will obey this.

  2. The .toc file is now read into memory at the time of
\usepackage{etoc} and it is opened for write operation at
the first TOC typesetting command. Prior, both happened at
  the \begin{document}.

  3. The commands added by the package to the .toc file are
declared to the external world to do nothing. Hence some
other package can also load the .toc file (this must happen
before the first typeset TOC) and execute its contents.
(related to the point 2 above.)

  4. A number of superfluous \global's and a few \gdef's,
which were left-overs from the war against bugs in the
developing stages of the code, were removed.

  5. The documentation has been updated and improved. An
unclear statement about secnumdepth has been corrected.

This is reasonably mature version. It adds:

  * compatibility with the KOMA-script classes

  * compatibility with the memoir class

  * many changes in command names (in particular \localtableofcontents
replaces \tableofcontents*): legacy documents from a decade ago
(in days... ;-) ) will not compile anymore.

  Also, some bugs were fixed.
