New Orleans, LA (AHN) - State wildlife officials in Louisiana,
Mississippi,and Alabama are expressing growing concern as dead wildlife
including rodents, household pets, cattle, raccoons, possums, and other
assorted animals are mixing in the flood waters around the deep south.
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the exact death toll of animals is not
currently being estimated, but officials are worried disease will start to
settle in rapidly as people become stranded around flooded homes and
businesses and walk through the waters.
The concerns about wildlife is another story for paramedics and rescue
workers trying to clutch onto people from their homes and streets
surrounding New Orleans, Gulf Port, Mississippi, and other areas along the
gulf coast.
Dozens of alligators can be seen swimming in neighborhoods along with
thousands of snakes and fire ants mixing into the water supply.
Currently, the states effected with these problems are not sure when the
flooding waters will be under control, and until they do, there is little
that can be done to alleviate the problems.
