Despite the fact that it looks like we are headed for a confrontation over the Akha Journal, the demand for the first journal which is photo intensive and all in English was so strong in the villages that we went through our entire production of 2200 journals in 6 days.
The second journal was to be in half english and half Akha.
This journal is about Akha life and times in Thailand.
For this reason we are doing a second printing of this journal, an additional 5,000 copies.
For those of you who understand the reality of having a press shut down, a paper silenced, this is the Akha opportunity to have their story told, what is happening to them, the brutalities and robberies in the villages.
Burma gets plenty of rap for human rights abuses, but what goes on in the mountains of Thailand is a silent story. To this we seek to add paper, photos, and words. We have done this at great risk for some time. A few who have been here can testify.
We need people to step forward to help us cover the cost of $626 in paper.
In addition we are having the plates made today for the Akha Alphabet book. We intend to print 10,000 Akha Alphabet Books for children in the 300 villages of Thailand for a first printing.
This is a sizeable moment in our work here, be a part of it, help give voice to the most impoverished people of Thailand, the hilltribe.
