Today’s Second Amendment Lesson
* If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

SOS: Screwing Our Scouts
We’re coming to you today from Phoenix, Arizona ... where we’ve had no
problem at all finding Bush/Cheney road signs. Lots of them. Haven’t seen a
single Alpha-Al/Holy-Joe sign ... but did catch a few “Bunny Goldfarb” signs.
Don’t know if she’s a Democrat or a Republican, though. Instead of an
elephant or a donkey on her signs, there’s a rabbit. Go figure.
We’ve also had no problem finding continued controversy over the Supreme
Court’s ruling that the Boy Scouts have the right to set up their own
membership criteria. But because the Scouts have determined that openly gay
men are not acceptable role models for the young boys in their organization,
the Tempe (a Phoenix suburb) mayor and city manager here recently decreed
that voluntary government employee contributions to the United Way earmarked
for the Scouts will henceforth be prohibited.
“City funds should not be used to discriminate,” said acting City Manager
John Greco. Um, but this matter doesn’t involve any city funds. It pertains
to employees voluntarily checking off a pledge card box specifying that their
voluntary United Way contribution go to the Scouts. Ah, but let’s not let
the facts get in the way of a good politically-correct temper-tantrum, right?
(Defend the Scouts by signing the petition urging the national press to
query the presidential candidates on this issue at

And Now, From the Other Extreme...
“Columnist Deroy Murdock has defended sodomite (Arizona) Republican state
representative Steve May for the indefensible. ... Sodomy is reprehensible,
filthy, disgusting, a crime against nature and a crime against civilization.
The penalty God gave for it is death. Now I realize that many people today
think they are above God, but 'taint necessarily so! Matter of fact, if
these guys and gals are above God and proclaim that there is no such thing as
right and wrong, then who are they to say that GOD is ‘wrong’ in His
judgement toward sodomy? I believe I'll go with God on this one. Mr. May
has earned God's eternal death penalty unless he repents, is born again, and
walks the regenerate, not degenerate, life.”

Other Literal Bible Translations
“Dear Mr. Falwell,
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have
learned a great deal from your show, and I try to share that knowledge with
as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual
lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly
stated it to be an abomination to the Lord. I do need some advice from you,
however, regarding some of the other laws and how best to follow them:
A) When I burn a bull on the alter as a sacrifice, I know it creates a
pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors: they
claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
B) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus
2:17. In this day and age, what do you think a fair price for her would be?
C) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her
period of menstrual uncleanness. (Lev. 15:19-24) The problem is, how do I
tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
D) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female,
provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims
this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own
Canadians?
E) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2
clearly states that he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill
him myself?
F) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination
(Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree.
Can you settle this?
G) Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the alter of the Lord if I have
a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my
vision have to be 20/20 or is there some wiggle room here?
H) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around
their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How
should they die?
I) I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me
unclean. May I still play football if I wear gloves?
J) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different
crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two
different kinds of thread. (It looks like some sort of cotton/poly blend.) He
also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to
the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev.
24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private affair like we do
with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev 20:14.)
I know that you have studied these things extensively, so I'm confident that
you can help. Thanks for reminding us that God's word is eternal and
unchanging.”

Liar, Liar ... Pants of Fire
“A quick search of the web turns up 915 matches for the phrase ‘Gore lies’ in
just 27 seconds. Some of these hits refer to Gore political postures, as in
‘lies low.’ The vast majority refers to places on the web that deal with the
idea that he has problems with the accuracy of his statements on issues big
and small. National Review, America's leading journal of conservative
opinion, devotes four pages to ‘The Gore Lies’ on its Web site. Americans
for Tax Reform, a conservative pressure group, also lists several pages of
what they call ‘Gore's Lies’. Included in the mix is everything from simple
mistakes that Gore has failed to correct and exaggerations to those things
that can only be called political obstructionism.”
- Columnist Peter Roff, 9/30/00

The Great Exaggerator Strikes Again
“I’ve been part of the discussion on the Strategic Petroleum Reserve since
the days it was first established.”
- Vice President Al Gore telling yet another whopper. The reserve was
authorized in 1975 ... two full years before Gore was even elected to
Congress.

And The “October Surprise” Is Yet to Come
“Notwithstanding your position on the underlying issue what, do you suppose,
was the thinking at the Food and Drug Administration which, after four years
of investigations, decided it had to hand out its approval of RU-486 just
weeks before the election. There is nothing that this Administration will
not politicize.”
