Many of you are folks who may be too young or not informed about the activities of the Republican Party after WW2, or the early 50's. What we are seeing going on now in Congress with these impeachment proceedings has a parallel, or a "dejavous" of what happened in 1954 which led to the Republican's loss of control of the House for forty (40) years until 1994. Why would the American voters reject a Party with such intensity and fury for so long? The House Republican's in the early 50's had made the foolish mistake of embracing an "Inquisition" into the loyalty of the citizens by a man called McCarthy. With the election of a "National Hero" Dwight Eisenhower, the Republican controlled House thought they had an "ally" with Eisenhower. So the "McCarthy Hearings" went "full steam ahead" because the Republican's were furious with the "populism" of the "New Deal" of Franklin Roosevelt, who was elected and re-elected 4 times, and so now they could now seek retribution (revenge) for all this "populist" President stood for. The McCarthy "Inquisition" was NOT popular with the American people but, as today, the Republican House ignored this point. Eisenhower, however was getting the "heat" from the voters about the Republican House "Inquisition" because he was going to be up for re-election in 1956. McCarthy was CENSORED and he would live a life ident in 1954. In 1954 the Republican Congress was rejected by the voters and they payed for their perfidy for forty years. The Republican's never learn. They will be rejected in the year 2000. This will be the price they once again pay for their folly. Jack Reg.
