While I'm at it I might as well add a note to this posting on
"Robopolitics". That is a section of one of the 14 chapters in "The
Psychology of Everyday Robots". Remember Dr. Dick Jones who was on this
list? He said he had a program which could converse and that I had
unknowingly been debating with a machine. It was just a couple of weeks
earlier that I contacted IBM Archives noting that their latest computer
Blue Pacific has the power to handle a program which could converse as
well as a human so I asked them if they could tell us via Discovery
Educational TV how many programmer hours would go into writing a
Roboconversationalist program which would do as well on a mailing list
discussion as a typical human. They will answer the question if it is
asked but now Discovery has sent me a Producer's kit so I am trying to get
the book out with a proposal for a TV program. I don't want to give away
the whole story before the book is released but I see nothing to stop
someone from writing these programs. Dick Jones may very well have one
now. Of course a special variation on Roboconversationalist would be
Robolistmoderator. Think of the implications for the democracy of the near
future, whatever you call that new democracy.
