-Caveat Lector- UK BANKS WAGE WAR ON THE POPULATION by Andrew Hennessey First it was the 'hole in the wall' and automatic banking, then telephone 24 service .... and the birth of a new way of looking after your money in UK .... Driven by TV hype - everybody got the bit of plastic and a honeymoon period of financial freedom begun. But the honeymoon is over in the UK - Banks and building societys are closing down local community branches, to the detriment of the elderly, and are slapping vast handling charges onto the accounts of the most underpriveleged of people - the elderly. [ie. Halifax BS] Now the Bank war rages on into the pockets of everyone now hooked on the plastic subculture - for everyone who uses a card is going to be heavily charged for every transaction. The banks are set to merge together for a joint 'milking the populace' strategy where serious banking competitiors are 'shaking hands' on new ways to screw the public. The real losers are the vastly underpriveleged North of Britain whose loss of touch with the average minimum wage makes that part of Britain north of watford look like a financial desert. It seems to be getting to the stage in Northern Britain where people just cannot afford to put their money into a Bank. A recent TV expose of this turning of the screw suggested that Banks were deliberately trying to terminate some of their clientelles accounts - and that the banking trade name for these uneconomical undesirables is 'LEMONS' A picture of an old age pensioner in todays papers charged $12 dollars for a transaction in his account highlights this brutal piece of Social Darwinism.
