But they do not know the thoughts of the L-rd, and they do not understand His purpose; For He has gathered them like sheaves to the threshing floor. Arise and thresh, daughter of Zion, for your horn I will make iron and your hoofs I will make bronze, that you may pulverize many peoples, that you may devote to the L-rd their unjust gain and their wealth to the L-rd of all the earth." Sharon stated that a Jew wishing to visit an area in the capital of Jerusalem may do so without having to explained his intentions. His visit gave the Palestinians an excuse to began the violence that has lasted, as of this report, three days and has killed 15 Palestinians, injured over 500 others -- both Jewish and Palestinians -- and caused widespread violence throughout Eretz Israel. Sharon had notified the police earlier in the week who, in turn, notified the Waqf (Muslim administration on the Temple Mount). Contrary to the belief that it was Sharon's visit that caused the rioting, very few Palestinians responded to calls to come to the Temple Mount to protest. Palestinian youth also steered clear of the Temple Mount even though local schools were closed to allow them join in "the defense of Jerusalem". It was not until after Sharon left that the violence started. A large number of officers escorting Sharon were hurt when Arabs hurled large stones at them. Hundreds of Arabs, following their prayers on the Temple Mount Friday, hurled rocks and other objects at Jewish worshipers at the Western Wall below. Police fired rubber-coated bullets at the stone throwers, dispersed a majority of the 22,000 Muslim worshipers and evacuated Jews praying in the area. Arabs also threw stones at Israeli ambulances that arrived on the scene. The violence spread to other locations and cities, as well. Faisal Husseini, who holds the Palestinian Authority's (PA- PLO) Jerusalem portfolio, was working to incite the large crowd. Israeli-Arab MKs were also among the instigators of the violence. "Murderers of Palestinians!" and "This is not your Temple Mount" were among the shouts heard from the Arab MKs. NO 'CEASEFIRE' SAYS PLO: Israel and the Palestinians did not agree to a ceasefire Saturday, contrary to Israeli statements, said Mohammed Dahlan, the head of PLO preventive security in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army's chief of staff, Shaul Mofaz, had earlier told reporters that he had spoken to Dahlan and his counterpart in charge of Yesha (Judea and Samaria), Jibril Rajoub, and that the two sides agreed on a ceasefire to begin at 4:00 p.m. (1300 GMT). Separately, Dahlan told the Qatari television network AL-JAZEERA that the PLO would demand that "all Israeli soldiers responsible for what happened" be tried. IDF SOLDIER KILLED BY 'PEACE PARTNER': A Border police officer, Chief Inspector Yossi Tabaja, 27, from Ramle was killed and another Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldier was lightly injured Friday when a PLO 'paramilitary policeman' opened fire on them. The terrorist attack took place in the town of Kalkilya, located east of Kfar Saba in Area A (under Palestinian administrative and security control), YEDIOT AHARONOT ON-LINE reported. The terrorist was a member of a joint Israel/PA-PLO security patrol. The PLO has announced that the terrorist is in 'custody'. Earlier in the week, Israel suspended joint patrols in the Gaza area with senior IDF commanders stating that in many cases, PA-PLO military personnel are part of the problem rather than the solution, explaining that not only do they not participate in stopping violence, in many cases they are part of the unrest. MEANWHILE, IN GAZA ...: One IDF soldier, Sergeant David Biri, age 19 from Jerusalem, was killed and another was wounded moderately by a terrorist attack near Netzarim in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday night. The incident occurred when a convoy of three civilian vehicles, escorted by two military vehicles, set out from the Karni terminal on the Israel-Gaza border to the isolated settlement of Netzarim. Shortly after the convoy entered the corridor leading to the settlement, about three kilometers (1.8 miles) east of the Netzarim Junction, two roadside bombs were detonated in rapid succession. The IDF and the Shin Bet security services believe that the attack may have been the work of Hamas activists, though they are not ruling out the possibility that PA-PLO police were involved. Tension around Netzarim has escalated sharply in the past few weeks. Soldiers manning the IDF post at the Netzarim Junction have had stones thrown at them more and more frequently. Meanwhile, another bomb exploded Thursday evening just north of the Nahal Oz roadblock near Netzarim. No one was hurt. The bomb was set approximately 30 meters from the road, inside PA-PLO territory, and exploded near IDF jeeps patrolling the area. Aaron Lerner (Independent Media Review & Analysis) recently stated that "the Zionist response would be the most painful for the PA-PLO: immediately approving the construction of Kfar Biri, in memory of 19 year old Sergeant David Biri ... I can think of no greater disincentive for terrorist activity than the knowledge that the Palestinians will 'pay' for every successful attack via additional Jewish construction in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip." [This used to be the response to terrorist attacks. Many settlements were started in this way.-- ed] THE BUILDING CONTINUES: A surge of building is underway in the Golan Heights. In the area's 'capital' city of Katzrin, the construction of another 56 housing units began this week. Another 100 units are in the midst of construction there, and most of them have already been sold. The Golan communities of Ma'aleh Gamla, Kidmat Tzvi, and Ramat Magshimim are also in the midst of adding new housing. In another story, the PLO has called off negotiations with Israel until Israel stops building in Yesha. US Secretary of State Albright arrived in Jerusalem Thursday night, and Arabs want the US to pressure Prime Minister Barak to stop construction. The Israeli newspaper HA'ARETZ quotes a source in the prime minister's office as saying that while the current construction is based only on permits from previous governments, Barak will not scrap future plans. Eight young Jews from different parts of the country have moved into a site on the Mt. of Olives, not far from the area's "pioneers" in Ma'aleh HaZeitim. The new site contains three old houses in disrepair, which are owned by the Chief General Jerusalem Burial Society. Currently, one apartment is occupied, and the rest are expected to be filled soon. The new residents are reportedly security guards, and according to the Burial Society leadership, their job is to "guard the area 'day and night' and to safeguard the character of the area as a Jewish cemetery, after so many years in which drug addicts have taken over." It is not close to any Arab houses, nor has it been earmarked for future gravesites; it is situated between a Sephardi burial section and an area planned for a parking lot. No complaints have been submitted against the new residents, and in fact, "until eight months ago, this place was a center for drugs," Ma'aleh Ha'Zeitim resident Aryeh King said. King also reported that 51 new units are being built in Ma'aleh Ha'Zeitim. YESHUA POPULATION UP: The Jewish population of Yesha (Judea, Samaria, and Gaza) is now more than twice what it was when the Oslo agreement was signed seven years ago. Some 210,000 people now live in Yesha communities. Gush Etzion's Nokdim, for instance, has grown from 35 families to 150 since the Oslo agreement, while Netzarim has 70 families, up from 25. Other statistics: Otniel, south of Hebron, boasts 100 families, Ofrah - 500, and Beit El has over 800. On the eve of Trumpets (1 Tishri/30 September), the Central Bureau of Statistics reports that the population of the State of Israel stands at 6.3 million, of which 82% (5.15 million) are "Jews and others" and 18% (1.15 million) are Arabs. Included in "Jews and others" are 4.95 million people registered as Jews in the population registry (78.57% of the country's total population) and approximately 200,000 non-Jewish new immigrants and their family members (of whom 180,000 are not classified vis-a-vis religion; the remaining 20,000 are classified as Christians). In the past year, the country's population grew by 165,000, 2.5%, slightly lower than in the previous year. Almost 90% of these came from the former USSR. PLO ATTEMPTING TO 'ERASE' THE BORDERS: ARUTZ-7 correspondent Haggai Huberman reports on an increasing phenomenon of PLO attempts to blur the division of Judea and Samaria into Areas A, B, and C. Many PLO para-military policemen have lately been reported entering Area B -- under Israeli military control -- without Israeli permission. Huberman reports that the Palestinians are trying to "show their presence" in Israeli-controlled areas, and are increasing the number of both legal and illegal penetrations as if to "get Israel used to the idea." No official Palestinian nullification of Oslo has been registered, but officials such as Abu Ala have said that they no longer recognize the Oslo-mandated division of the territory. In a related item, HA'ARETZ reports that Israel is making practical preparations for a unilateral Palestinian declaration of a state. A Defense Ministry team, headed by Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh, has been formed to guide Israel's policy in such an eventuality. Steps under consideration include the unilateral annexation of territorial blocks in Yesha, the suspension of economic agreements, a decrease in the number of Palestinian workers allowed into Israel, and others. SYRIA TESTS SCUD-D MISSILE: Syria successfully tested its first North Korean ground-to-ground Scud-D missile test last weekend -- the missile was fired toward northeastern Syria. The sources said the IDF's Arrow missile can intercept the Scud-D, which has a maximum range of about 600 kilometers (373 miles). The difficulty would be in trying to locate the missile launchers. Extending the range enables the Syrian military to locate launchers deep inside their territory. THIS WEEK IN JEWISH HISTORY (This material has been adapted from "Beyond Time and History" by Eli Birnbaum): 25 September 1967: Kfar Etzion was reestablished by the children of the original settlers. The kibbutz was destroyed and its defenders (including women) massacred after surrendering in May 1948. 25 September 1941: In Kiev, 2,000 notices were posted around Kiev ordering all Jews to appear the next day with documents, warm clothes and valuables. Its result was the Babi Yar massacres. According to German records, 33,771 Jews, were slaughtered in a Ravine outside of Kiev. The massacre is immortalized in Yevgei Yevtushenko's poem "Babi Yar". The monument placed on the site does not mention Jews. 30 September 1938: Hitler convinced Chamberlain and Daladier that he wanted to protect German rights in the Sudetenland by annexing it, (the 'Munich Agreement') and that he had no further demands. Chamberlain gave in, claiming that by doing so he had achieved peace "in our time". 1943: On Friday morning the day before Rosh Hashana Rabbi Mechior of Copenhagen canceled services for the new year. During the next few weeks almost all of the 7,000 Danish Jews were smuggled to Sweden. ** NOTICE ** NOTICE ** REDEMPTION IN THE END-TIMES PROPHECY CONFERENCE We at Tzemach News Service believe that these are the "last days" predicted millennia ago by the Hebrew prophets.
