Trials by Fire: The First 24 Hours   and After

Managing   a crisis: What is needed within the first 24 hours after a
traumatic event,   what to do for the victims and what to track; Lessons
learned about the post   24 hour needs of the community; and How to prepare
for the eventuality of a   trauma. Opportunity will be provided for open
discussion, questions and ideas   to be added.

Students in Distress: Helping Students in the Post-Katrina World

This workshop is designed to assist faculty and staff deal with the many
emotional sequelae students experience following Katrina. We will discuss
how to deal with distressed students including recognizing signs of
potential problems, the role of faculty and staff in helping students, how
to make a referral, and crisis intervention. We will also discuss how to
facilitate a classroom discussion of Katrina and its aftermath, a topic that
may be distressing to some students in class. Lastly, we will look at
resources for faculty and staff as we all recoup following the trauma of
this fall.
