-Caveat Lector- I also moderate a support list for these women. I have nothing but the greatest contempt for men who treat women this way even if it is just in a threat over the internet. Amelia Violence against anyone is bad. For too long, so called "women's groups" support policies that promote a societal mindset that considers women "weak"; "helpless" and "victims." So called "women's rights" groups act in contradiction. On one hand they claim "women are equal - women are capable of anything" They argue women can be fighter pilots and combat soldiers. On the other hand they also complain that women are helpless victims...they must be protected from the mean men. They are too helpless to escape abusive relationships. This insidious and destructive mindset encourages women to be victims, to rely on "Orders of Protection", "Shelters", etc. Women must be encouraged to empower themselves and to take responsibility for their actions and relationships. Too many times I have witnessed women who intentionally have relationships with dysfunctional men - over and over. They go from one "abusive" relationship to another. The best advice for women: "Stop having children with abusive, immature men." Stop relying on "Orders of Protection" and "Shelters." Instead take a course on self defense and buy a gun. Those of you who attacked her and stated that she was personally making the comments contained in the article, name calling, etc. are 'way out of line. Your usual attempts to silence anybody not in agreement with you display your little agenda. I wonder if Kris really wants you to decimate his list for him while he is trying to promote the book, etc. NESSIE, as for your threats to "hurt" the poster, I cannot tell you the contempt with which I now hold you. I have been doing volunteer work with battered women the last three years. Yesterday afternoon, I went to court with one as the organization with which I am associated, Hope Place, assists women in getting out of relationships with and away from men who think exactly as you said you do in the second post to Kindred Spirit, the one where you will "hurt" her if she insults one of your friends, etc. That excuse if not right after "she made me do it" is in the top 5 you abusers use. NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO "HURT" ANOTHER PERSON EXCEPT IN SELF DEFENSE. Not even you, Nessie. Do you still have your radio show? Have you shared with your sponsors your right to hurt people? If not, why not and if so, do they approve? So based on your logic and belief system that one hurts those who say/post/think things of which one does not approve or deems insulting, what if, just for example, I find your constantly calling people who are my friend or those for whom I have regard "Nazi, bigoted, racist" when I know you are lying, I would be entitled to forward your posts to my two former classmates in the San Francisco (and one in San Diego) who could, in turn, pass them all around until somebody decided they believed as you do and had the right to hurt you. JUNE, I was surprised that you remained silent while Nessie threatened to hurt another poster but after reading your remarks concerning Super Bowl Sunday, apparently you are into this men hurting women thing, too. I wish you could see some of the women who arrive in the Huntsville shelter, which is totally inadequate. I have had two in my home briefly when there was not room at the shelter but it is always a frightening thing as these men with the right to hurt women may find us. They have to stay inside, away from windows and cannot use the phone, lie down in the backseat of my car under a blanket to get to the house. I have to lock a gate to my driveway, another to my yard and a third to my immediate back yard and entrance, etc., a whole series of required safe guards to even offer these women shelter as all too often these men who "hurt" women find them and kill or injure others to get to the object of their abuse. Whether or not it is SuperBowl Sunday when these things happen, go to the DOJ website on the Violence Against Women Act section and read how 4,000 women are killed every year by men who think just like this, that they have the "right" to hurt if their friends are insulted, their dinner is cold, the kids are noisy or whatever. Often they claim they only meant to "hurt" the woman and express their surprise at how easily she was killed. Only 200-300 men are killed by domestic violence during a year so spare me the "men are abused. too" routine. Heard it. Lots. Seldom applies. This has been a cause on which I have spent a great deal of my time and effort over the last three years and it is very dear to my heart. I also moderate a support list for these women. I did this by once again restating the by now well known fact that I require people in my physical presence to treat me and my friends with respect. That's how I live my life. We're not even talking about women. Were talking about pixels on a screen. What on earth makes you think the "Kindred Spirit" is a woman? It is every bit as likely that "Kindred Spirit" is a man, a committee, a literary character, or an Artificial Intelligence subroutine. There is simply no way to tell. Consider the context. This is NOT in person, face to face. This is the internet. People regularly assume multiple personas here. It's the norm. For all you know for sure, I myself am a woman. Just because I say I am not proves nothing. It is also equally likely that I myself am a committee, a literary character, or an Artificial Intelligence subroutine. You dont know. You cant know. So, not knowing what "Kindred Spirit" is, or for that matter what you are, I restate my position. This applies to everybody, male, female, animal and machine. I don't care what you think, what you say when I'm not present, or what you say on the internet. It's nothing but a bunch of pixels on a screen. It's not worth getting upset about. But if you track me down, and come into my real world physical presence, you are going to have to play by my rules just like everybody else does when they are in my physical presence. Those rules are simple. I enforce them vigorously: (1.) Do not attempt to harm me or any of my friends. (2.) Show respect. Otherwise I'll hurt you. Its as simple as that. If you are a woman, I'll let you insult me and only get insults back. Im pretty good at insults. Theyll hurt plenty. Hell, I'll even let you swing on me first, once and only once. The above was at the beginning of the post by Kindred Spirit in addition to the "FYI" in the subject matter. I believe this was far more than adequate as a disclaimer. The hell it is. Stating that one doesn't know whether the contents of one's post is true or not does NOT say anything about if one ENDORSES the contents of the post. One can post something that one doesn't know is true or not -- or perhaps even knows is a lie -- and still endorse the opinions expressed in the post. I could forward a post to the list from someone who says they work for the government and have proof that outer space aliens have taken over the highest offices of government. I may know that the person who wrote the original post is lying, and doesn't work for the gov't nor have any 'proof' of outerspace aliens working in the government or at Burger King...but if I BELIEVE that outerspace aliens exist and have infiltrated our gov't, then I may feel the issues raised in the post warrant forwarding it on, even tho I know it is a 'lie'... And if I put a statement at the beginning saying "I don't know if this is true or not", it doesn't mean I disagree with the contents of the post... Your usual attempts to silence anybody not in agreement with you display your little agenda. I wonder if Kris really wants you to decimate his list for him while he is trying to promote the book, etc. Kris and I had a very pleasant phone chat the other day when he was in town, and he didn't express any opinion that he thought anyone was 'decimating' the list... JUNE, I was surprised that you remained silent while Nessie threatened to hurt another poster but after reading your remarks concerning Super Bowl Sunday, apparently you are into this men hurting women thing, too. You are an idiot. Explain to me how perpetuating a LIE regarding the supposed rise in spousal abuse following the Super Bowl furthers the cause of women in general, and abused women in particular? Rather, if you encourage the spreading of the myth of Super Bowl causing increased spousal abuse, you do a great disservice to the true cause of helping women, because you discredit the whole field. As it said in the Super Bowl post, there is no logic in the sentiment that perpetuating the LIE regarding Super Bowl = increased spousal abuse will do ANYTHING to further the cause of helping abused women. I wish you could see some of the women who arrive in the Huntsville shelter, which is totally inadequate. You assume that I: a) have not worked at abuse shelters myself, and b) that I myself have not been a victim of abuse, and c) that I don't currently have a problem with (ongoing) abuse/stalking... This has been a cause on which I have spent a great deal of my time and effort over the last three years and it is very dear to my heart. I also moderate a support list for these women. God help them. If anyone was so totally unqualified to moderate such a list, it is you...
