 excerpt:

 Back Orifice (B.O.) - it's baaak!

I announced in Win Letter 17 that a malicious Trojan-horse
virus called Back Orifice was on the loose. Back Orifice
(B.O.) gives hackers unauthorized access to the desktops of
victims' Win95 and Win98 PCs that are connected to the
Internet. Well, don't look now, but it's baaak! The "Cult
of the Dead Cow," which makes B.O., says it will release its
new Back Orifice 2000 on July 9. The new, improved version
of the virus enables hackers to write plug-ins. And, unlike
its predecessor, B.O. 2000 works on Windows NT in addition
to Windows. To protect yourself, make sure you're running
a good anti-virus program and updating it regularly. You're
going to hear a lot about this new virus, but remember: You
heard it here first. Eventually, it's likely that Microsoft
will post a security bulletin on this site. When they do,
 they'll post it here:

 Cool Trivia Answer

A Russian hacker recently cracked a U.S. government computer
system and rerouted a print job to Russia before re-rerouting
it back to the printer. Last week's question was "Which
 government agency was hacked"?

Answer: The U.S. Space and Naval Systems Warfare Center
(Spa War) in San Diego, Calif. The print-job hijack was
discovered by Ron Broersma, a Spa War network operations
engineer. Broersma noticed that a print job took too long,
so he used monitoring tools to make the discovery. No one
knows how many print jobs were read or what people or
 agencies in Russia received them.
