Do You Want to Stop Terrorism or Continue to Support It?

by Tom Rauchegger

If you really want to stop the terrorism and future threat of terrorism in the United States, then you must learn some of the lessons of September 11th and avoid the media’s distracting broadcasts of memorial services, 9/11 musical concerts, and “patriotic” flag-waving American citizens.  It is now one year later and still there is no true and believable explanation why 9/11 actually happened.  Why did the terrorists attack the United States?  What terrible acts did the United States do as a nation that would warrant such an attack on America?  Were the 19+ men who terrorized us trying to send us an important message that we have been distracted from discovering (by our own media) up until now?  Did we receive the message(s) and did we learn from them?  Could it be that we are directly supporting the very terrorism that we wish to abolish?

It was not too long ago in our nation's short history when a bitter struggle took place on America’s soil that eventually led to the creation of the United States of America.  A group of unorganized and outnumbered American Patriots defeated a corrupt bully that had occupied, controlled, and unfairly taxed the people and the land.  The outnumbered American Patriots used guerrilla-type warfare and terrorism to defeat the more heavily armed, better-organized and higher-skilled British occupiers of its land.  The Americans fought for their homes, land, and freedom in their struggle for independence.  Fortunately, in those days the British did not have an even larger bully supplying them with their weapons while financing their nation economically.  These patriots who fought for their and our freedom symbolize the true nature and basis of our nation, its laws and its Constitution.

Today the times have changed and some of the names have also changed, but the story remains the same.  The bully/occupier is now Israel and the Palestinians are now the poor and hopeless patriots.  America has chosen its ally and friend in Israel and has supported it both financially and militarily since 1949, according to the Jewish Virtual Library.  The establishment of the state of Israel resulted in over three million Palestinians fleeing or being forced out of their homes in mandate Palestine and what was to be Israel.

Despite a United Nations resolution recognizing the Palestinians' right to return to their homes, Israeli law barred those Palestinians from re-entering Israel at the end of the war.  The Palestinians became refugees, taken in by other Arab states.  The United Nations established the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East to help care for those Palestinians.  More than 3.7 million Palestinians -- the refugees and their descendants -- are registered with the agency in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza.

More than one million of those refugees live in 59 U.N.-operated refugee (concentration) camps -- 27 of them in the West Bank and Gaza.  Almost half of the roughly three million Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza are refugees, and more than 600,000 of them live in the camps.

It is Israel who forced over three million people from their homes and does not abide by International law.  You may now understand why Israel lives under the constant threat of suicide bombers (patriots?).  Why does America, the peaceful and freedom-seeking nation, continue to support the oppressive and intimidating nation of Israel with the supply of weapons bearing the “Made in USA” logo?  Would American citizens knowingly approve of such terrible atrocities and injustices by its so-called friend and important ally?

Israel is one of the largest buyers of US arms, but it should also be known that the majority of the US arms trade to Israel is financed with the $2 billion a year Israel gets from Washington in military aid.  The Israeli arsenal includes thousands of small arms, dozens of US-made helicopters (AH-64As, AH-1Fs, AH-1Gs); hundreds of tanks (M-60s) and armored personnel carriers; and the biggest fleet of American fighter aircraft outside of the US (F-15s, F-16s, F-4s, A-4s).  In addition, Israel also receives $4 billion in annual monetary aid from the United States to help it build new homes in the occupied territories once belonging to the Palestinians.  According to the American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise (AICE), Israel has received a total of $94,966,300,000 between 1949 and 2001.  Israel, a country of approximately six million people, is currently receiving more U.S. aid than all of Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean combined if you exclude Egypt and Columbia.

Do you as a taxpayer know, fully understand and approve of where your tax money is going (towards the occupation, murdering, manipulation, and taxation without representation of other nations)?

I am now beginning to understand why so many nations could possibly hate America and its questionable foreign policy that supports the murdering of innocent people.  Just imagine if one day your nation was occupied by another country and you were forced to leave your home and all of your belongings and move to a refugee camp to live in poverty.  What if a bully had total control of your mere existence and your voices and pleas of despair and help continued to go unheard?  Would you not fight back for your freedom, or would you just give up and become a slave to the oppressor?

America for many generations leading up to post-WW II was the country most known for helping other nations when they were bullied and oppressed by opposing forces.  America is a land of kind, peaceful and caring citizens.  Unfortunately, the few (much like the pigs in George Orwell’s Animal Farm) who actually control America, its military, its media, and its foreign policy are those who are putting the country at risk of future terrorism.

Thomas Jefferson spoke for the founders of this great nation and for all of its past presidents when he said, “peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none . . . which is, one of the essential principles of our government.”  Whatever happened to this principle?  Why can’t we be friends with all nations?  Why don’t we export more building materials, food and books that carry the “Made in USA” logo and less guns, missiles, and fighter jets that kill, suppress and destroy?  Is it because we are actually the materialistic, violent and heartless society others claim us to be?

The American flag used to be a symbol of peace, freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness throughout the world.  Unfortunately in many parts of the world it is now the symbol of materialism, war, murder, occupation, oppression, death and destruction.  It is time for all Americans to wake up, educate themselves, question their politicians, question the media (and those who control it), and demand that our country no longer supports countries that perpetrate mass killings of innocent people using “Made in USA” killing machines.

Remember . . . “The Friend of my enemy is my enemy.”  Israel may be the perpetrator of all of these killings, but many nations know very well who is feeding the killing machine with the ammunition it needs (many times free of charge).  If we don’t do something soon about our menacing foreign policy then we may be forced to live in the same fear and hell that our “friend and ally” Israel is living amongst.  Unfortunately, September 11th may only be the beginning for us, and personally, I don’t want to live like the Israelis who through their own injustices have created their own society filled with fear, death and war.  The root of the evil that is growing in the Middle East continues to go unknown by many of our own American citizens, but ironically it is well known by most of the rest of the world including the terrorists.

Some of you may ask why the United Nations has not been able to assist the Palestinians in their plight for justice and freedom.  Just last year on March 28, the US vetoed a UN Security Council Resolution which would have placed international observers in the West Bank and Gaza areas of conflict between Israeli Jews and the Palestinians. The disgraceful US veto of the resolution, which had passed nine to zero was only the most recent of US interventions to protect Israel from world-wide condemnation for its racist violence and ethnic cleansing exerted against Palestinians.

In addition, thanks to US protection, Israel has for over 30 years ignored UN General Assembly Resolutions 242 and 338 calling for the return of Palestinian refugees and the land seized by the Israeli Jews in the War of 1967.  US protection for Israel has damaged the credibility of the UN and US foreign policy everywhere.  The benefits from protecting Israel go to Israeli Jews who have occupied the properties of the indigenous Palestinians; benefits go also to Israeli and US politicians whose reelection campaigns are supported with Jewish votes and money.  Israel often refutes the United Nations resolutions, even calling the United Nations an anti-Semitic organization.  These global injustices and the defiance of international law by our nation never seem to reach the watchful eyes and ears of the American public or make it on our public radio or television.

But on the ground, the Israeli choice of US weapons continues to make a difference, according to an article dated March 23, 2002 by The Sydney Morning Herald.  After the Israelis launched a US-built TOW missile in a helicopter attack on a Gaza police station last year, a staff member who survived confronted an American visitor. "This is what your country is doing," he said, holding up a part of the missile carrying the words "Made in USA."  He reportedly went on: "We hate the Israelis for this . . . but we hate America more."

When will we open our eyes and ears and demand justice, peace, freedom and prosperity for all?  It is up to you, America!  It is time for you to seek the truth and make those responsible for our fear and suffering caused by September 11th to pay for it.  Next time you wave your American flag, recite the Pledge of Allegiance or sing the National Anthem, think of what injustices and atrocities your country and flag may be actually supporting.  America, do you want to stop terrorism, or do you want to continue to support it?
