Al-Fayed: Dodi And Di Murdered; Driver Paul Blinded By Laser And Blood Swapped

                                   9-18-99

LONDON (Reuters) -- Harrods store owner Mohamed al-Fayed
accused British intelligence on Friday of killing Princess Diana and
his son Dodi, allegations the government called "baseless."

Al-Fayed said Henri Paul, the driver of the car in which the couple
died in Paris two years ago, had acted on the orders of Britain's MI5
and MI6 security agencies and the French intelligence service.

"He drove into the tunnel under the instructions of MI6 and MI5
and French intelligence," al-Fayed told BBC radio in an interview.
"They killed him, they had to kill him, of course."

Al-Fayed has persisted with his version of events despite a French
judicial inquiry that found Paul was drunk when his Mercedes
limousine crashed at high speed into a pillar in a Paris road tunnel on
       August 31, 1997.

The British Foreign Office said there was "not a shred of truth" in
the allegation that the accident was the result of a conspiracy.

"The implication that an agency of the British government might
have had some involvement is baseless, and deeply upsetting for the
royal family, the princess's family and all those who wish to
remember her life and achievements," a spokesman said.

Al-Fayed said Paul was sober and his blood sample had been
switched at the mortuary. Paul had been a paid informer of MI6,
Britain's foreign intelligence agency, for three years, he said.

       Al-Fayed, an Egyptian, called MI5, Britain's counter-intelligence
service, and MI6 "two evil organisations accountable to nobody."

"People have to understand that what happened to Diana and what
happened to my son is a murder and I am not going keep quiet until
       I get to the truth."

Al-Fayed said he had been unable to obtain proof to back his
allegations because British secrecy laws denied him access to the
       files of the intelligence services.

Al-Fayed said Dodi, a playboy film producer, had been engaged to
marry Diana, who was divorced from British royal heir Prince
Charles the year before she died. Friends of Diana say she did not
       intend to marry Dodi.

Al-Fayed repeated his contention that the crash was caused by a
white Fiat Uno car, which has not been traced, pushing the
       Mercedes into the pillar.

He also revisited a theory, supported by a witness dismissed by
French police as unreliable, that driver Paul -- an employee of
Fayed's Ritz Hotel -- was blinded by a laser light.

"Where is the Fiat Uno which pushed the car the into the column?
Where is the motorcycle which ran away with a laser gun, blinding
       the driver?" Al-Fayed asked.

Diana Driver's Blood 'Swapped' In Murder Cover-Up
                               Says Al-Fayed

LONDON (AFP) - British and French intelligence swapped the
blood of the driver of Princess Diana's car to cover up the "murder"
of Diana and her companion Dodi Fayed, Egyptian millionaire
       Mohammed Al Fayed claimed Friday.

In an interview with the BBC, Dodi's father accused Britain and
France of killing the couple and then trying to lay the blame on Paul,
who also died in the crash.

A two-year investigation by French judges concluded Paul was
drunk, under medication and speeding when their Mercedes car
crashed into a pillar on the Alma road tunnel in Paris early on
       August 31, 1997.

Fayed, owner of the Harrods department store in London and the
Ritz Hotel in Paris, has repeatedly accused the British secret services
and royal family of plotting the deaths, and is appealing the ruling by
       the French judges.

He returned to the attack in the BBC interview, insisting that if only
he was allowed access to secret service files, he could prove it was
       all a plot.

"Henri Paul's blood was exchanged in the mortuary, it's not Henri
Paul's blood ... I'm going to prove that the blood is not Henri Paul's
       blood," he added.

Fayed said Paul had been in the pay of British intelligence and drove
into the tunnel "under the instruction" of the British and French
       secret services.

He too had to die as part of the plot so he could not reveal anything.

"They know what they have done and I'm not going to let them get
away with that ... the guy was not drunk."

Fayed also insisted Diana was still conscious "seven or eight hours"
after the accident, dismissing the official inquiry which concluded
       she had never regained consciousness.

"She was talking ... she was there, she was alive after the accident,
she was talking, she was asking about Dodi," he added.

Fayed, who has long railed against the British establishment for
refusing to give him a British passport, insisted Diana and Dodi were
deeply in love and about to marry.

"They wanted to murder Diana because she wanted to be free ...
after the 20 years of hell she lived.

"What happened to Diana and what happened to my son is murder,
and I'm not going to keep quiet until I get to the truth."

Buckingham Palace refused to comment except to say that Fayed's
views "are a matter for him."

However the Foreign Office dismissed his claims as "baseless" and
       "deeply upsetting."

In a statement, it said there was "not a shred of truth in the
allegation that the tragic accident ... was the result of a conspiracy."

"The implication that an agency of the British government might
have had some involvement is baseless and deeply upsetting for the
royal family, the princess's family and all those who wish to
       remember her life and achievements."
