October 23, 2002 NA (Network America) e-wire
WLW Uncensors our Radio Ads
Late last night – about 4:30 AM eastern standard time, this writer sent
out a Network America e-wire detailing how – after only seven one minute
ads had run on 700 AM WLW radio on October 22, 2002 – the order was
given by a person in authority at WLW to quit running our ads.
This was, objectively, a blatant violation of the “Reasonable Access”
law for federal political candidates – and was an action which entitled
the federal candidate, in this case myself as a candidate for the 2nd
Congressional District of Ohio, to file for ownership of the license of
WLW radio. I immediately called and left a message to that effect on the
answering machine of one of the relevant people at WLW.
This morning, at about 7:30 AM, someone in authority at WLW attempted to
reach me and left a message who stated that they had pulled our ads
after 6 PM on October 22, 2002 on both WLW and WKRC -- based on
“complaints” and “phone calls.” They felt they were “playing it safe”
and wanted to make sure that they had to run my ads. (This was not
playing it safe, however, put was playing with the station’s license.)
The whole idea of the “reasonable access” law is to PROTECT free speech
in the public discourse -- even if 99% of the population is complaining
about what a federal candidate for office is saying in his campaign.
In fact, I question whether anybody was complaining to WLW except a few
of these professional organizers or spokesmen in the Zionist Jewish
organizations, and people who they asked to call in to complain.
The average American is bewildered by this rush to War! War! War!, and
does not feel any visceral, imminent threat to our nation, and is very
curious as to why – suddenly – the world seems to be in the midst of
constant terror, and on the brink of World War III. So I believe the
average person will be intrigued by our radio ads, not in the mood to
run to their phone and start demanding that the ads be pulled.
The WLW official told me in response to my question, that they had
received about 15 complaining calls, at least two from the
anti-Defamation League (of B’nai B’rith?) which he had taken personally.
He said a Marian (or Miriam?) Glick from this professional Jewish
organization had threatened to get on ballot and run for office and put
on radio ads. She is welcome to do this next election season, of course,
-- but the deadline for legally qualified write in candidates is past
for 2002. However, if WLW will accept them, she and her organization can
put on issue oriented ads anytime – and try to refute what our ads are
saying.
If I am saying anything wrong or libelous in my ads, then the party or
parties who imagine themselves aggrieved – have every right to sue me.
(This, of course, would open them up to fact finding depositions from
the one sued, and so forth.)
Back to the action: the WLW official indicated that their research on
this morning of 10-23-02 verified that I was a legally qualified
candidate (I had provided this documentation from the Hamilton County
Board of Elections to WLW and WKRC before I placed the ads) and so they
were re-instating all of our radio ads, and promised to make up the 14
ads which had been blocked on the night of 10-22 and on the morning of
10-23.
This WLW official asked that I please not take any action with regard to
WLW’s license with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and that
they would make sure all the radio ads ran as scheduled, with make ups,
as is required by the reasonable access law.
I had gotten to bed at about 5 AM due to preparing material for the
website, for this e-wire, and in preparation for communicating with the
Federal Communications Commission and WLW management this morning.
Since I needed to help get the kids off to school by 7:30 AM or so, I
had laid back down and had not made any contact with the FEC at the time
I heard from this WLW official at about 9 AM (he had already left two
messages which I had missed).
So, in fact, when I awakened at 9 AM to the phone call from this
individual at WLW, I had not yet contacted the Federal Communications
Commission. Based on this conversation, and the promise to give us fair
and reasonable access to for the remainder of the campaign.
We now look forward to a clear two week run with comparable access to
the airwaves as all the other candidates and businesses who are running
spots in this two week period. Yesterday, our mix of times was evenly
spaced, with a few running in drive time. And we expect our ads to
receive this same type of fair mix of airing times, with reasonable
spacing of the ads throughout each program we bought ads on – just as
all the others who are running spots in this two week period.
(As an important aside, I must say that the programmers and technicians
at these radio stations, both large and small, are under a tremendous
amount of pressure to make everything happen – and I am amazed that they
do so well in bringing everything off on time for all those who buy ads
in a busy period like the ones before the election.)
Despite the controversial nature of our messages, we expect be allowed
to air our messages in accordance with the existing laws for federal
candidates and FCC licensed radio stations. We do not expect to be
discriminated against OR victimized by guerilla warfare – just because
Mzzzz. Glick or some other official of Zionist officialdom doesn’t like
what we are saying. (Incidentally, WHO are these people who think they
should be above public criticism?)
We take very seriously our duty to protect YOUR rights, those of you who
have donated your hard earned money to make this important and possibly
historic radio ad campaign possible. We will fight for our rights and
your rights – because our message must get to the into the market place
of ideas.
We continue to audiotape all of the hours of broadcasting of WLW and
WKRC, and will continue to do so until election day 2002, for your
protection, and for the protection of the continuation of free speech in
the US for federal candidates and their supporters. The airing of these
issues MUST happen, lest we are pushed headlong into an abyss that can
easily be avoided.
This whole incident of the blocking of our ads for a short time, and
then the re-instating of our ads once the “reasonable access” law was
reviewed -- indicates the power which this reasonable access law makes
available to the American people. 50 plus candidates can run for
Congress in 2004, and take advantage of this excellent law, in order to
bring the ideas to the public which are not being covered sufficiently,
or covered at all in many cases, by the Big Media.
This would break the censorship of the Big Media, as one little pinpoint
of truth can bust a big balloon of disinformation and distortion. If
such intelligent use of the airwaves is combined with organizing
efforts, and sincere prayer, -- then this country can be turned around
in a hurry, and put back on course to fulfill its destiny. Stay tuned.
