(Reuters) - Film director Oliver Stone, who was arrested last month for allegedly driving drunk, pleaded innocent Thursday to charges of driving under the influence and possessing controlled substances. Stone, 52, who won Academy Awards for "Platoon" and "Born on the Fourth of July," was charged with possessing a small amount of Hydrocodone, a strong pain medication, and a small amount of concentrated cannabis, prosecutors said. He also faces a misdemeanor count of possessing small quantities of fenfluramine, phentermine and Meprobamate and two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence. Fenfluramine and phentermine are the ingredients found in fen-phen, a central nervous system stimulant widely used by dieters until 1997, when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration linked the drug combination to heart valve problems. Meprobamate is a muscle relaxant or sedative. Stone, who also directed "Natural Born Killers," "Wall Street" and "JFK," was arrested June 9 after police allegedly observed him driving his black Ford Mustang erratically through Beverly Hills. Officers found the drugs during a search of Stone's car, prosecutors said. The director has been free on $12,000 bail since his arrest.
