Jerome David Salinger is one of the world's most famous recluses.
Almost calf a century ago, he published The Catcher in The Rye,
one of the most explosive and influential books ever written.
Capturing the essence of disaffected youth, the book has never been out of
print.
Salinger is 80 this year and has not published anything for nearly 35 years.
This film, which includes never-before-seen footage of the author and
interviews with friends,
colleagues and a former girlfriend, questions why the son of affluent
parents should write a book
so filled with torment and turns to his past for clues.
