A Genetically engineered Oilseed Rape crop has become a local health hazard around the Roslin Institute near Edinburgh. Roslin, world famous for Dolly, Templars and Claims to descent from Christ is now the centre of an epidemic scandal from a mutant crop out of control. Impervious to powerful weedkillers, burning, and ploughing, nothing seems to stop this persistent mutant from spreading to other farms, year after year. It just grows back in and can't be killed said a local agricultural worker. Heavy on toxic pollen, local bouts of an illness akin to hay fever but with more physiologically damaging respiratory inflammation have hit the nearby villages and towns. eg. Lasswade, Penicuik There is widespread illness and medical reaction to the pollen. A survey of local beekeepers suggest 3 out of every 4 local bees are dying. Employees of the Roslin Institute - an area famous for Cloning experiments, 2 headed horses, brain dead cats and a rather large limepit to put the 'errors' in to, have been threatened about the disclosure - which has now reached pressure groups locally. There are 14 other sites of this mutant crop in central Scotland, and as the European Union pays Scottish farmers subsidies to grow Oilseed rape in Central Scotland - almost every farm has fields of the bright yellow flowers, then the likelihood of this outbreak being contained to the locality is low. If the bees cannot take the pollen, the wind will find an easy task spreading the mutant pollen to other fields. It looks like pressure groups are lining up to legally contest the medical damage done by this menace - and yet another reason to ask the European Union which has recently set up 2 new European Commissions 1. The Human Genetics Commission 2. Commission on Agricultire and the Environment to intervene and put an end to the conspiracy of silence surrounding the ill health of the towns and people around Roslin.
