USS Cole Kin Outraged by Dem Tactics
Gore campaign challenges to military absentee ballots in Florida
have "made a mockery of the deaths of the 17 servicemen" who died
aboard the USS Cole, an angry relative said Sunday.
The charge comes from Greg Owens, whose nephew Chief Petty
Officer Ronald Scott Owens was the lone Floridian killed when a
terrorist bomb ripped through the Cole's hull on Oct. 12.
"I'm sure most if not all of them by the nature of their job were
extremely patriotic," Owens' uncle told the New York Daily News
Monday. "I think they'd like to have a chance to vote."
"I think it's just a big slap in the face," the uncle said of the
40 percent of military ballots trashed by Democrats in Florida.
The sailor's grandmother, Mary Owens, was equally disgusted by
the unpatriotic Democrat tactics.
"I think she would tell them there are 17 families in the United
States who are hurting and the situation right now is an absolute
mockery of what their loved ones gave their lives for," Greg
Owens said on her behalf.
The conciliatory words of Gore running mate Joe Lieberman, who
said that the military ballots should be "reconsidered" in TV
interviews Sunday, did little to salve the wounds of the Owens
family.
"To me, the damage they caused is - what's the word -
irreparable," Owens told the News.
