Stimson Former Secretary of War (1913) The United States appears to be sleep-walking on a course to sure destruction, and America’s leaders, who have plotted this course, appear to be completely oblivious to the mortal danger they are leading us into. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the imminent giveaway of the U.S. Canal in Panama. In just a few months, unless the American people raise a terrific outcry, this strategic waterway, so vital to our economy and national security, will be turned over to Panama. But Panama, a tiny country of only 2.8 million people, does not even have an army.
